Many times when we open the door on refrigerator, there is a click on opening and a click on closing the door. It's not the light switch and when i listen, it's coming from the bottom, under the fridge. Fridge seems to work fine, but the click bothers me. Seems like a switch tied to the door opening/closing. If i try cycling the light switch, no clicking, so it must be something else. Thanks

Hello, Thank you for your question. The clicking sound you maybe hearing is caused by a compressor overload caused by a dirty condenser. If this is the case, the clicking sound you are hearing is the compressor shutting itself down on the overload. The coil allows refrigerant to run through it and allows heat to dissipate. It also allows the refrigerant to cool and expand. You will need to clean the coils to resolve this issue. You should also check and make sure that the start relay is working correctly. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Followup to question below for clarification. Why would condenser only click when door is opened or closed.....and not anytime it started up? we have a matching freezer beside and it never clicks, so hard to see why one would be dirtier than the other. but i will look and clean up for sure. what part # is the start relay and what symptoms would it show if it was failing, other than clicking? thank you.

Hello, Thank you for contacting us back. If the clicking noise only happens when you open and close the door, the refrigerator may be responding to the changes in temperature that an open door may cause. We apologize if we answered you incorrectly when you contacted us previously. The part number listed under your model number for the start relay/controller is PS11757755. The overload relay is a protection device used in the compressor circuit on your refrigerator. Power is applied to the compressor motor windings through the overload device, and the relay is used to add the start winding in the circuit until the compressor is at running speed. If the fans are running and your compressor won’t start or if you hear a clicking sound from the unit, check the overload relay for signs of overheating or arcing. On modern refrigerators the overload relay is usually a combined part and plugs directly onto the side of the compressor. The overload and relay can be checked for continuity with a multi-meter. There may also be a start capacitor attached to the relay overload assembly. The start capacitor provides increased starting voltage to the compressor windings. If the start capacitor is defective then the compressor may not start. Check for signs of overheating or arcing and replace if necessary. If the overload, start relay and capacitor check ok, then you may have a defective compressor which should be checked by a qualified technician. These are live electrical circuits and power should be removed before servicing. We hope this helps with the repair.
