Mixer only had 2 speeds with the smell of electrical burning.
This mixer was given to me 8-10 yrs ago with only 2 speeds (cant believe i waited this long to fix it). Repair went good, wasn't sure what i should replace so i replaced Control board, control plate, governor, grease in the gears and the transmission gasket. I first took any and ALL measurements for any screws on the control plate, this will help when you set your mixer speeds when its all back together. When installing the new governor i used a 10mm socket and a mallet to seat it all the way till it stops on the set pin. installed the new control board, with thermal grease on the back of the plate(very important). Didn't need to replace the grease in the gears, but i figured since i was in there id replace it. (No smells and all gears work) I used it to ground 5lbs of elk into burger (speed 4) after repairs and it worked great. Still have about 15lbs left to do and itll do it with out braking a sweat. Maybe i should open up a repair shop to fix these suckers...lol its that easy. What really helped with the repairs is the youtube video from Partselect. Second to none with a step by step on how to replace and repair just about anything on your mixer. Good deal, if i need to replace anything else i know where to go! Thanks

Motor did not turn on.
I removed the excess of grease to clear all parts. Then I installed new mechanical parts. Finally, I installed all electrical parts. I followed a logical sequence of removing and installing steps. Tip: Never remove parts without a logical order of sequence.

Mixer would not turn on
Pulled off end cover. Used the how-to video's to show me how to remove the (3) components (watch out when it comes to removing the spring). Removed all (3) components (one issue was the black cardboard seal, which because of its age broke. Hindsight tells me that I should have purchased a replacement seal along with the (3) new parts.
Fixed the broken part of the seal with scotch tape). Installed all new parts with the help of the video's and put the cover back on. Even with the new parts, the mixer would not run. Come to find out, after I took it to an appliance repair person, that someone had pulled both brushes and put them back in improperly. I could not find a how-to video that showed me how to de-install/re-install the brushes properly. I assume that was because new brushes were no longer available for purchase. At any rate, when the brushes were put in properly, everything worked. The repair person also adjusted the (2) screws on the speed control plate so that when you change the speeds via the lever, it all works properly. I didn't find a how-to video covering those adjustments either.

Corroded speed control plate ( full of flour). Had used the mixer for grinding deer meat and lost the slow speed. Flour would fly up in my wife's face.
I just thought there had to be a way to replace a component to correct the speed problem. I've never worked on a mixer before, so I thought it would be a challenge. Actually the repair was fairly easy. Make sure the unit is unplugged from AC. I removed the back motor cover with one screw and removed the end seal. I compared the parts on the mixer with the diagram provided at the Part Select website. I then ordered the parts. When the parts arrived 3 days later, I removed the Speed Control Plate ( 3 screws) and Phase Control Bd (1 screw) as one Assy. Removed the old Governor and slipped on the new one. Assy the new Speed Control Plate and Phase Control Bd comparing wiring and screwed them back to the unit. Removed the two motor bushes by unscrewing the side black motor brush holders and inserting the new brushes. I tried powering motor and nothing happened. I thought, great, now what did I do? I found out that you must make sure the brushes actually touch the armature otherwise the motor doesn't run. The gears are worn from grinding to much deer meat and my wife says no more. I've ordered new gears and looks like that job, too, will be easy to repair. Adding these parts is alot cheaper than buying a new unit and it will run like new. Not bad for over 10 years of usage.

The mixer seem to run to fast just on the stir senting? Why
For model number K45SS
Hello Mike, Thank you for your inquiry. We would recommend checking the following parts to fix your issue: speed control plate, speed governor, the phase control board, and make sure the speed control lever and speed link are tightened and clear of debris. You can test the other parts with a multimeter. If you are unfamiliar with how a multimeter functions, there are YouTube videos available to assist you. Hope this helps!

Mixer is noisier than normal and 8 and 10 speed setting has no noticable change in rpm or sound. I will order the govenor, plate and phase board.
For model number K5SS
Hello Dean, thank you for your question. Yes, we would recommend replacing both the PartSelect Number: PS11753017 and PartSelect Number: PS11748567. While you're replacing those parts, check the worm gears and other gears in the unit and make sure they are well greased. I hope this helps!

I have no 1st/ low speed, on 2nd speed it just sounds like grinding but won't spin. If bowl is empty it will spin on lower gears, if fill it has to be on high speed not will quit spinning after about 5-10 minutes of use? Just want to see which all parts to order? Thanks
For model number KSM150PSBY
Hi Ann,
Thank you for your question. If you are having an issue with the speed of the mixer, there are some parts that you will need to check to see which ones are causing the issue. You will need to check the speed governor, speed control plate and the speed control lever. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

The motor on my mixer is intermittent, like its losing contact intermittently. I replaced the speed control plate but it never would adjust to run smooth. Does it need brushes?
For model number k45ss
Hello Matthew, Thank you for the question. Yes, defective or worn brushes can cause this issue. If you remove the brushes you should be able to tell if they need to be replaced. Hope this helps!

Ok, so i replaced the speed control, the brushes, but it still runs rough and noisy. Like the contactor springy things on the back arent keeping contact. Speed is mostly constant at higher speeds but lower speeds its intermittent. Governor? Motor? Gear? Thanks again.
For model number k45ss
Hello Matthew, thank you for your question. It sounds like a speed governor issue. We would recommend replacing that part next. I hope this helps.

I replaced the speed control module and the mixer speeds are fast on stir setting. No adjustments on module help on adjusting speeds on any setting. Now what?
For model number KSM90
Hello Steve, thank you for reaching out. According to our research, we would suggest replacing the Phase Control Board, part number PS11752886. The phase control board helps control the speeds. If that does not help, we would suggest checking the Speed Governor, part number PS11753017. If you require assistance placing an order, please contact customer service. We hope that helps!
