screw cap would not hold bowl when making dough
My kitchenaid mixer is at least 37 years old. Everything has worked fine after all these years except the screw cap was flimsy, still stainless steel, but not sturdy. So I tried to replace it , but was told it was too old and couldn't get the part. I contacted Part Select and found a screw cap from newer models fit perfectly and should outlast me and the mixer, it is a lot sturdier than original one. It also arrived in 2 days, which was fantastic. Thanks guys

1960s Kitchenaid K45 Mixer Screw Cap Stripped
My early '60's Kitchenaid K45 mixer screw cap/base plate would no longer hold the bowl, so I looked for another. This item, though not an exact replica of the original, fit and works great. The design is better by being more stout than the original. Pretty straightforward installation: remove three screws, take out old base plate, install new plate and screw down.

When using the bread hook, the force of the dough would knock the bowl out of the retaining ring on the mixer (Cap-Screw.)
Three phillips-head screws held the "Cap Screw" in place on the stand of the mixer. After cleaning the stuff out of the screw slots, the screws came out surprisingly easy. After the plate was lifted off, we cleaned the residue from under the plate, placed the new one in position and easily screwed in the 3 screws.
We were very pleased by the quick delivery of the part.

bowel would come out of screwcap when making dough for pasta
The repair was easy only requiring a phillips head screw driver to remove the old screw cap. The new screw cap fit snuggly and required a little downward pressure from my hand to seat it. Then I simply tightened the screws. Good as new for this 30+ year old mixer. My wife loves this mixer that was given to her by her Aunt. Glad we could keep it going.

Old screw cap wore out and would not hold bowl when mixing heavy batters.
Unscrewed old Screw Cap, tapped it out with hammer. Replaced with new screw cap that was slightly different and tight. Tapped it in with piece of wood over it and hammered it on. No problems.

old stand mixer mixing bowl base will not firmly hold newer mixing bowls
With a screw driver remove the screws holding the old base in place. With a flat head screw driver carefully pry and remove old mixer base. With 600 grit sandpaper clean and make smooth any burrs or rough spots in the mixer base recessed area. You can use some light grease and coat the outer edges of new mixer base and place in the now cleaned mixer base recessed area. The new base maybe a tight fit and not be fully seated in the recess. If a tight fit, place the piece of 2x4 piece of wood over the new part that is in the recess and carefully tap the base home using the sledge hammer. Check to see, if the base is fully seated. If not fully seated, tap again When fully seated replace the screws. You may have to adjust the height of the stand mixer head with mixer paddle attached for proper clearance between bowl and paddle. See your mixer manual for adjustment procedure

The original screw cap would not hold the mixer bowl in place anymore.
The new part was too large for the replacement job, but we used the self tapping screws that came with the mixer and screwed them in from the bottom to open the holes a little more since the original screws were to short to hold the new plate. Then we replaced the screws with longer screws and that seemed to do the trick!
