Water started drip from freezer door.
Freezer full, so first thought door had been left slightly adjar. Verified the compressor was runing. Left to hopefully cool down. Did not happen. Searching for cause after covers were removed identified that fan in freezer was not working and ice had built up . While troubleshooting, the freezer went through a defrost cycle. Juryrigged the fan to run continuosly and concluded the defrost thermostat must be the problem. Installed new thermostate when recieved. No change! Deeper search then found crack in the defroster coil, which must have worked off and on but finaly failed completely.
Bought new refidgerator, as this was just one more problem with this older refridgirator. Also ordered new defroster coil to hopefully fix up the old refridgerator as a garage spare.

The original problem was the evaporator fan was not operating. I replaced the evaporator fan and the refrigerator runs but runs all the time. The defrost heater checks good. I took the thermostat off of the heater coil to test it now the evaporator fan does not operate. If the defrost thermostat is not working (open) will the evaporator fan operate? How is the best way to test the thermostat part number c8972006? The evaporator fan was working but after i took off the thermostat to test it the evaporator fan does not operate. I replaced the evaporator fan and it was working until i tried to test the thermostat. Is it possible i damaged the thermostat when i took it off of the heater coil to test it ? If compressor runs but the refrigerator does not get cold enough. Could part of the compressor not be operating because the start relay does not start the part of the motor that heats up the coils? If i feel the compressor with my hand it does not get warm when it is operating. This is why i thing the start stop relay is defective and only allowing part of the compressor to run-operate. I checked the winding on the compressor and the resistance measurement were within reasonable measurements. Please tell me it is not the compress.

Hi Harry,
Thank you for your questions. To test the electrical parts on your refrigerator, you will need to use a multimeter to check the continuity of each part to see which one is causing the issue. It is possible that the thermostat was damaged when you changed the evaporator fan motor. You will need to need to test it. If your refrigerator is too warm, There are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the defrost timer, the condenser fan motor, the capacitor, the compressor, the door closure cam, the evaporator fan motor and the thermostat, I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
