My Whirlpool trash compactor "start" switch appears to be on all the time, and the trash compactor will go through the compact cycle, but it does not stop at the top of the travel. We can use the compactor by switching it "off" when it reaches the top. Then when we turn it "on" again the the compact cycle starts over and works until it returns to the top, at which point we have to turn it off. Does this indicate that we need to replace the switch assembly (p/n 9871140)?
