My refrigerator was stuck in defrost mode and neither the condenser fan nor compressor would start. Only the evaporator fan ran all the time.
Used a nut driver to take off the control cover in the top of the inside of refrigerator. Used a Phillips screwdriver to take off the controller cover . Carefully removed the controller from the tabs and unplugged the wiring connections. The new controller is flat so carefully break the plastic tabs and bend to a 45 degree angle to match the old part. This is done without tools. Reverse to put it back together.

I believe my refrigerator is stuck in defrost mode. The evaporator fan runs all the time but the condenser fan and compressor do nothing. I cannot find a defrost timer and wanted to know if this control board controls the defrost as well. I have been noticing that my ice has been melting and freezing back for some time but I thought I was leaving the door open too long. Yesterday it didn’t leave the defrost mode to start the condenser fan and compressor.
just the evaporator fan runs all the time.
thanks for your help.
i am on a fixed income and can’t afford a new refrigerator like i could before i became disabled.

Hi David,
Thank you for your question. If the compressor is not coming on, the issue could be the capacitor. This part provides the voltage or energy current required to start the compressor and keep it running, allowing the compressor to easily cycle on and off. There are some other parts that you will need to check as well. Here is a link from our website that you may reference on what parts to check, https://www.partselect.com/AdvancedModelSymptoms.aspx?ModelNum=10656666501&mfgModelNum=&fkMfgID=3&ModelMasterID=353872&PID=40. You will need to test the parts with a multimeter. Here is a link to one of our videos on YouTube that you may reference on how to use one, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWC44fHn0As. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
