Timer

PROBLEM: The washing machine would not go through the entire wash cycle. It would stop at the rinse cycle and the tub would not drain.

FIX: So easy, my wife made the repair while I was out of town. (1) Remove the two (of four) inner most Philips head screws to allow the control panel to swing down. (2) Pry off the cover on the cycle select knob with a flat head screw driver to allow removal the clip that holds the dial to the timer. (3) Pull off cycle select knob, cover, and spring, (4) Remove two bolts that hold the time to the control panel. (5) Remove two electrical connections from the timer. (5) Repeat steps in reverse order to install the new timer.

First I removed the four screws on top of the front control panel, and removed the panel. I then pried out the decorative cap from the front of the cycle control knob, and removed the retainer clip on the knob shaft. I then removed the rest of the plastic knob assembly and spring, and removed the two screws holding the timer to the control panel. I disconnected the two cable connectors from the timer and removed the old timer. I reconnected the cables to the new timer, and reversed the above process to complete the installation.

Replaced the timer.. wasn't sure if it was a timer problem. But, based on the ineternet search, took a chance to replace the timer.

Removed front panel and replaced the switch, and the knobs. Marked the wire harness with a black marks a-lot, with the old timer so I could replace the new one the same way. EASY.

After reading repair stories from others on the website, I was well prepared to remove the timer. I unplugged the machine from the electrical outlet and pryed out the center cover of the timer knobs with a pocket knife, removed the holding clip from the shaft and removed the two knobs and spring. I then removed the four screws from the top of the control panel, lifted the panel slightly upward and tipped the panel forward. With the aid of a pocket knife I then removed the two electrical connectors from the timer while depressing the plastic locking tabs. The control panel was then tipped upright and the two machine screws holding the timer were removed at the front. The timer was then free to be removed from the control panel. The new timer was installed in the reverse order of the removal. The old timer appeared to be working but had some signs of corrosion which was probably not allowing some of the electrical contacts to make a good connection. I attempted to clean the contacts but this did not help and decided this would only be a temporary fix if I did get it to work again.

Do not be afraid, this is any easy replacement. Begin by unplugging the washer. First I removed the two inside screws on the top of the control panel. Then the front panel falls forward. The timer is located on the right side (has two large wiring harnesses plugged into it). I removed the two wiring harnesses (taking note of which side each goes for the new device). I placed the new timer beside it and simply unplugged and plugged the wiring harnesses into the new timer to avoid any mistakes here. Then, I used a flat head screw driver to pop off the center of the timer knob. Once you do this, there is a small clip to remove. It simply slides off. After it is removed, the knob comes completely off. Then, I used a nut driver to remove the two screws holding the timer on (remove and discard). I connected the wiring harnesses to the new timer and screwed it in place, and followed all of the previous steps in reverse order.

UNPLUG THE WASHER FROM THE OUTLET

Remove control knob, - use thin blade to pry off the front cover to reveal a small locking clip. Slide clip out with blade or screwdriver.

Note the two bolts to remove the timer using a nutdriver or small socket

Remove front control cover, (There are actually four screws on top but you only need to remove the two inside screws. The outside screws just hold the plastic ends on.)

While supporting the cover, remove the timer by removing the two bolts under the knob you removed earlier.

Remove the two electrical connections. ( Hold locking clip out when wiggling the connection free.)

Reverse order install of the new timer, plug it back in and washer washes, magic!

My husband took off the front cover on the washer, removed the two screws that held the old timer, disconnected the two wires and the prewired connector (thingy), replaced the connector, rewired the timer, screwed it back into place, put the cover back on and viola! the washer was fixed in less than 5 minutes for less than $100, no service call or charge and no time off from work to wait for a repair man. Easy and cheap.

First: I removed the cap from the timer knob then the locking washer which held the knob in place, which allowed me to remove the knob and spring. Second: I loosened the 2 bolts that hold the timer in place. Third: remove the screws which hold the front cover assembly in place and and tilt it forward. Fourth: complete removing the mounting bolts for the timer and remove timer. Last: unplug the 2 wiring harnesses and you have the timer removed. Reverse the order to install the new timer. It is soooooooooo easy! Make sure not to loose any of the screws or the locking washer! set them in a safe place.
First and foremost, if you order your part for overnight delivery, stay on top of tracking it. My 10 minute job took me 1 week to get my overnighted part as Fedex "LOST THE PART!" They told me the lable had been torn off, but this was not the case when it arrived!

multi-meter was used to check appropiate voltage. The control panel was removed by unscrewing four phillips head screws. When the timer was rotated there was an arc or small flash inside the timer which was visible. Power was disconnected and the timer unit was removed. first step was to kill power source- Remove snap cap on control knob removed locking spring clip which enable you to remove the entire control knob. Two 5/16 screws were removed using appropate nutdriver. Simply unplug two wiring harness and reassemble.
