Basic Filter Water Replacement
First I located the filter on the the unit, (luckily it was right up front so I didn't have to move the unit), then I placed a towel down under where the filter would travel when it was removed from the unit, just to catch the water that was still in the filter itself, (no need to turn the water off at the valve for this particular unit) I gripped the front of the filter and turned it counter clockwise about a quarter of a turn and slid the filter straight out, then I removed the thumb screw attachment on the end of the old filter and placed it on the new filter, (this is done by sliding the unit to one end or the other), then I removed the protective cap from the opposite end of the filter and discarded it, then I slid the new filter into place (lining it up until it goes all the way in and turned it clockwise that same quarter of a turn.

I changed the filter
I changed the filter. With a wrench I turned the old filter counterclockwise to remove. I then proceeded to insert the new filter and turn it clockwise. That’s it.

How do I exchange the water filter? I put it in and try to turn it and it will not turn.
Hello Walter,
Thanks for your question. Grip the front of the filter and turn it counterclockwise a quarter of the way, then slide the filter straight out. If it is stuck, place a piece of cloth over the water filter cap. Using standard pliers, lock onto the water filter cap and turn the cap a quarter turn. Unplug the refrigerator and remove the bottom grill. By removing the bottom grill it could provide you easier access to the filter cap and provide you to grasp the cap easier. Do not use too much pressure. Pull the water filter straight out.
I hope this helps.

Pulled out old water filter & tried to replace with same number (4396701), but the ridge cap will not turn a quarter turn in either direction to insert it properly. Have tried numerous times. What can I do?
