About every 5-6 months I have to manually melt the ice off of the coils behind the panel inside of the refrigerator. Do I need a new coil heater?
For model number LFXS30726S
Hello Mark, thank you for reaching out. The ice that you can see on the rear panel is actually accumulating on the evaporator coil behind it. There are several conditions which can cause this icing. The door seal may be leaking air into the refrigerator compartment. A dust layer on the condenser coil may be causing the compressor to run too much. First, take a dollar bill and insert it in the door around the edges on all sides. If there is little or no resistance at any point to your pulling the bill out, the seal gasket should be replaced. Second, check the condenser coil to see if it is clogged with dust. If it is, vacuum the dustup with a shop vacuum. The air must flow through this coil so the refrigerant is cooled before returning to the compressor. After the condenser coil is clean, make certain the air fan attached to it is running. Give the appliance overnight to stabilize the compartment temperatures. If the problem is not solved, you may need to replace the defrost heater, part number PS11711915. We hope this solves your problem!
