How do we change the filter in microwave.
For model number WMH31017AS0
Hi Robert, thank you for reaching out. Grease filters are on the underside of the microwave oven. To change, slide the filter away from the tab area, and drop out the filter. To reinstall, place the end of the filter into the opening opposite the tab area, swing up the other end, and slide it toward the tab area. The charcoal filter is behind the vent grille at the top front of the microwave oven. The charcoal filter cannot be cleaned and should be replaced about every 6 months. Remove two screws on the vent grille, tilt the grille forward, lift it out, and remove the filter. To reinstall, place the filter into its slotted area - wire mesh side up, install the vent grille, and secure it with screws. We hope this information helps!

The nightmare was that this microwave is installed under the cabinet....in order to get to the light bulb I had to pull out my stove then squeeze into the space between the stove and counter....my old microwave light bult was much easier to change.....Shame on Whirlpool for making this so difficult.....must be a better way to cover the light bulb so that we do not need a screwdriver to remove the door to get to the light bulb
This was an over-the-range microwave/hood, so the replacement parts were significantly cheaper than buying a new unit.
Take microwave down (really a two-person job). Remove microwave cover (about 20 philips screws), discharge HV capacitor by shorting terminals to microwave case. Take photos before pulling anything apart. Remove plastic ducting covering part of the magnetron (3 philips screws). Remove old magnetron (4 Torx screws), need to disconnect small thermostat on side (2 philips screws) and replace with new magnetron. Replace HV diode (screw on one end, other end simply plugged into capacitor terminal). Put everything back together and it works fine.
