When i turn the knob to start nothing happens. It used to work periodically but finally stopped working all together.

Hello Richard, thank you for writing. This sounds like an issue with the Rotary Switch Kit, but sadly the replacement for your model is discontinued. You will need to reach out to GE directly for a substitution part number. Please feel free to get back in touch with us if they provide one. Thank you!

Unite is hard to open door. I didn’t see anything damage or broken. What could be the problem ?
For model number GCG1540F0SS
Hello Ernie, thank you for your question. If you have trouble opening or closing the drawer on your trash compactor, you may have a defective roller or rollers. If the rollers become damaged or lack lubrication the drawer may be difficult to move. To inspect, lift up on the drawer and remove from the opening. I hope this helps.

1) pulled the compactor from under the counter and unplugged it. 2) tipped it on its side 3) removed 5 screws (3 on the motor side and two on the bottom) an took off the bottom cover plate. 3) using the pliers i pulled of the retainer clip from the large drive gear(it had broken on only the hub remain attached) 4) i then just slid in the new gear, snapped in the retainer clip and buttoned up the cover plate. Note I did not replace the other parts that came in the package because the existing ones seemed ok.
After calling a repair man and being told my appliance was to old for him to repair I discovered your website. I simply entered the model number and a picture of the part I was looking for was easily found. I ordered online and received the replacement parts 5 day's later. I simply swapped out the old locking nuts with the new ones from your website and the repair was complete. What could have been an easy $100 repair cost a fraction of that and the trash compactor is working just fine.
