This Whirlpool refrigerator has worked well for more than 12 years until the temperature control became erratic and then stopped working altogether. Now it freezes the food. I want to try a new thermostat, but I don't see how to install it on this model: the screws to attach it and the electrical wires look simple, but I don't see any access for running the sensing line, or where it is routed to. The liner appears to be one continuous piece with no conduit or openings. Do I have to cut an access?

Hello Bill, Thank you for your inquiry. We have researched your model and there are actually two thermostats, the bi-metal defrost thermostat, and the cold control thermostat. The defrost thermostat you would access from the back of the refrigerator, and the cold control thermostat should be behind the thermostat knob. You will need to remove the knob and the screws securing the control. Pull out the cap tube. Then feed the new tube in the same location. Install the wires and secure in the same location. It is not recommended to cut a hole in your refrigerator liner as this can cause leaking issues. We hope this helps and if you need help placing an order, customer service is open 7 days a week. I used a flat-head screwdriver to pop out the old light rocker switch. Then, I unplugged the wires, plugged them into the new light rocker switch, and then popped the new switch into the hole. That's it! Lights began working again.
An easy job for smaller hands. Removed the two bolts holding the light cover. Removed two electrical connections from the old switch by pinching the retaining clip,removed the switch, snapped in the new one and re-attached the connectors. Your online illustrations helped me to know that the plastic housing for the light switch would only swing down so far and was not intended to be removed. Saved me from breaking that plastic cover's tabs. This home repair saved me more than 5 times the cost of hiring a professional to do it. Very happy homeowner.
This product comes in a bottle with a brush like Liquid Paper. It goes on incredibly easy. A second coat might be needed. I wanted to prevent rust from setting in so I covered the scratches and dings. The paint is a little brighter since my washer is 10 years old but it still looks great.
