Fridge won't dispense ice through the freezer door. It WILL dispense water. Ice IS being made, so there is water and ice, but no dispensing of the ice. Seems to me that the culprits can only be the micro switch, the Ice Dispenser solenoid and/or the auger motor. Can you rule OUT any of these? Are there other likely culprits? I do not have a multi meter to check continuity, and my repairman 'assumes' its the auger motor, although he says he hardly ever sees that. All help appreciated, thanks!

Cleaning behind this fridge today and noticed an unpleasant odor. Not a burning odor. No apparent leak. I see that there is a fixed (not removable) drip pan front right bottom.
Have you heard of this problem? If so ,what are the likely causes? If the drip pan is an issue, how is it accessed for cleaning if it can't be removed? Thanks!

Hi Bob, thank you for getting in touch. Refrigerator smells come from either bacteria or mold, often from food spoilage or moisture buildup. The interior of the refrigerator is primarily made of plastic, and plastic absorbs odors. If the refrigerator is not regularly cleaned, it is most likely the reason. If the refrigerator is cleaned regularly, then it may be because of the drip pan, and needs to be clean. We have attached a relevant video which may not be of the exact model but will help you remove the drip pan to clean it. We hope this sorts out your problem!

My follow up question is: So a bad solenoid will prevent the ice (which is being made without problem) from being dispensed down the chute? Does the solenoid have any involvement in switching back an forth from cubed>crushed>cubed?

Hello Bob, thank you for your inquiry. The dispenser solenoid is the part that allows cubed or crushed ice to be dispensed on command, so yes, it is the main part involved in switching back and forth between cubed and crushed ice and also opens the door flap to release the ice. You can test this by pressing on the pin to see if it moves freely. The auger motor rotates the auger to push the ice through the chute. You can test it without a multimeter by letting it warm up to room temperature (you can also use a hair dryer) and then trying to turn the shaft. We hope this helps.
In my specific appliance the water valve is located in the bottom right hand corner looking at it from the back. To get to it I remove the thin layer of cardboard the covers the back of the fridge. I then proceeded to disconnect the 1/4" copper tubing which is the water feed coming out of the wall. Then I removed the screws that hold the valve assembly in place. I took the water valve out and removed the electrical connections as well as the plastic tubing which feed the water dispenser and the ice maker. To install the new water valve it was just a matter of reversing steps.
Used pliers to remove the residual broken stud that was still attached to the wall of the refrigerator, and then just pushed the new part in place. The longest time was spent in removing the food and crisper drawers.
Even though my wife said that our icemaker broke, there was actually nothing wrong with it. It was the valve that let water flow in during the 'harvest' cycle. A real easy way to test the icemaker without voltage and current measurements, is to fill the tray by hand with a little cup of water; wait till the water freezes and see if the maker dumped the ice into the bin.
