can't engage tines
For model number 917293480

Hi Charles, thank you for the question. Ensure that the clevis pins have not been damaged. If they are fine, the issue could be with the clutch cable, part number PS9285703. The cable connects your hand lever to the drive system. If it's snapped or has too much slop, it won't pull the idler pulley tight against the belt. You may need to replace it to fix the issue. We hope this solves your problem!

My transmission is not shifting
For model number 917 293480

Hello Rudy, thank you for the question. The shift shaft could be seized. Rust from water contamination inside the gear case can seize the shifter. Clean the shaft thoroughly, apply oil, and work it back and forth. Use pliers or a small wrench to gently work the shaft back and forth until it moves freely. The gear selector could be stuck. If the tiller hit a hard object, the gears may be bound. Rock the machine while attempting to shift. Inspect the cables and levers leading from the handle to the transmission to ensure they are not broken or stretched. We hope this is what you were looking for!
