I unplugged my GE upright freezer for a year, i plugged it back in and now the light comes on so i know there's power there, but nothing else works. The controls on the front don't appear to work. I could get the warm cold button to work, but the compressor don't start and freezer don't get cold.

Hi Steven, thank you for your question. It looks like if your appliance is not starting up or is not warm enough, you may actually need to take a look at your control: PS3491624. However you could take a look at your compressor controller and the run capacitor as well. They can usually be tested for continuity with a multi meter. If you are not sure how to use a multi meter, we have a tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWC44fHn0As. Good luck with your repair.

I did what I know being your video did not work, I know power is there, I had to pull out the controller which is a little square thing that looks like a tiny battery with 2 prongs, when tested the meter did not go to infinity as it does when you touch both probes together. I do not know if that means the part is good or bad. I will give you the part number. But I wish the video would work. Part number jsu18x156aoh. Thank you very much. I am going to try the video again, can you send it so all I have to do is click on it? Steve

Hi Steven, Thank you for getting back to us. Here is a link to our video on YouTube, which will show you how to use a multi-meter, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWC44fHn0As. The part number you provided, jsu18x156aoh, does not come up. Normally, when checking a control board, you will need to inspect it for signs of wear, damage or burn marks. If it shows any of these signs, it will need to be replaced. We hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day.

Hi Letty, thank you for reaching out. According to our research, we would recommend checking the Compressor, part number PS12727544. If that does not help, we would suggest checking the Main Control Board, part number PS3491624. Please reach out to customer service if you need help placing an order, anyone will be happy to assist you. We hope that helps.

Keep searches simple. Use keywords, e.g. "leaking", "pump", "broken" or "fit".
The freezer door was catching when opened and frost was building inside telling me that the seal wasn't good.
I called the local GE dealer for repair. The repair person arrived and told me that he could not get the part. The freezer was too old. Then he charged me $60 for coming out. I went online and did a search for parts with the model number above. I found Partselect.com and the diagrams showed which part I needed. It was in stock and I ordered it. My husband and I removed the door to the freezer, pushed the part into the hole at the bottom of the door and put the door back on its hinges. It works perfectly. Thank you.
