plastic handle broke
First I removed and replaced the gasket around the tub. It didn't require any tools and took about 2 minutes to complete. I didn't really need to replace the gasket but it came with the latch kit so I went ahead and replaced it anyway. Than I removed only the top door panel (6 screws) and supported it while I removed the broken latch (2 Torx screws). I had to use a pair of needle nose pliers to pull the wires off the old latch (keeping track of where each wire came from) then plugged the wires onto the new latch and screwed it back to the door. Put the door panel back in place with the 6 screws I had removed earlier and I was done. it all took about 15 minutes and the wife is so glade she is not doing dishes by hand anymore that she left me alone for the rest of the night.

Dishwasher won't start
Be aware that there is a Child Lock Control on this dishwasher. To unlock the controls, press the POWER DRY OFF/NO HEAT DRY pad for 5 seconds until the CONTROLS light goes out.
If that doesn't work then read on.
I noticed the plastic handle was very loose in its opening. So I removed the screws along the interior edge of the door to expose the Door Latch Assembly. (Be careful. The two lowest screws- closest to the hinges- hold the metal door trim panel in place after sliding the panel over two clips near the screws. If you don't hold the door panel it may fall and get scratched. Put a bath towel or rug on the floor to avoid scratching it.)
After removing the phillips head screws, (and keeping track of the different size lengths in each position) I found the plastic handle broken at its fulcrum with the loose parts rattling around the inside of the door. The microswitches that tell the control panel the door is closed were not being pressed when the door closed because the broken handle was loose. I orderd the part I needed, got it in 5 days and reopened the door. The Door Latch Assembly is held in place with two medium size TORX head screws. Just remove each of the 4 electrical connectors one at a time from the old door latch assembly (that includes a new plastic handle) and attach to the new switch in the same order you remove them. After reassembling, I had the machine running in just a few minutes.

Door latch broken
Removed eight screws holding front panel to door; placed blanket below it beforehand based on tip read in another person’s post. Removed two screws holding switch in place and then transferred four wire connectors one at a time. Replaced latch assembly with two screws. Replaced front door panel by reinstalling eight previously removed screws then did a load of dishes.

I was impressed with the user friendly format of your web site. I was able to quickly look up the part I needed. It arrived much faster than I expected after my order was placed.

I have already recommended the site to a friend needing parts for a Gibson dishwasher.

The plastic door latch handle broke-off and fell into pieces.
Removed 6 screws, pulled the front cover forward, removed the old door latch, installed the new latch, replaced the screws, DONE! Took about 10 minutes. The new door latch works to open and close the door, and the dishwasher runs fine when the door is closed. However, the new door latch does not lock the door into place like the old one did. I didn't remove the screws and loor latch assembly again, but there must be a difference between the old part or the new part. And I noticed that the old part number and the part number of the replacement part are not the same, although the website indicated that it was the correct part for my model.

easy as pie
First I shut off the power to the dishwasher from the breaker panel. Then I removed the five screws holding the plastic top panel to the door (on the frigidaire, there is no need to remove the entire stainless steel door panel). I removed each of the four wires from the old latch (pulling the wires off required some "oomph") one by one and plugged them into the corresponding position on the new one. I did this so I would be sure to have them in the right place. I used a torx screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the old latch. I then replaced the old latch with the new one, replaced the top panel of the door, turned the breaker back on and everything was as good as new! The whole operation took maybe 20 minutes. It couldn't have been easier. The only surprises were how difficult it was to pull the wires off and the fact that the screws holding the latch were torx head.

In future, when I need parts, I will definitely use PartSelect. I have gotten parts from other sources, and this is the first place where, along with the part, you get all this advice from other DIY'ers. It's an absolutely brilliant idea and a lot of help.

Latch broken and door would not lock
Remove and replace the door gasket. Removed the 6 phillips head screws holding the top panel cover. This gives access to the latch assembly. Remove the two screw holding the latch in place. I removed the four wires one at a time with needle nose pliers and plugged them on the right spade of the new latch assembly. This assures getting them in the correct position. I then mounted the latch with the two screws and installed the cover with the 6 screws. Job done, piece of cake.

The handle broke on the dishwasher and needed screwdriver to open the latch
I took out 6 screws, the face plate just hung down. Make sure the breaker is off. there were two screws that held the switch and handle in place took those two out. Disconnected the four wires on the microswitchs and placed them on the new handle. Put the diswasher back together. Turned breaker on and worked great. But it started to leak. This is why they give you the gasket. The new latch does not always match to the same seal o the gasket. Replaced the gasket took less them two min. Ran the dishwasher again no leaks and the handle you can use one finger to unlock.

I've replaced the latch switch twice on my Frigidaire dishwasher. Each time, i've changed the switch, it lasts approximately a year, then the machine won't start. The machine just stopped for a third time in two years. I find that if i hold the door, while closed (of course), the machine will run . If i take my hand away, the machine stops running. If i touch and hold door lightly, the machine continues to run. Take my hand away, machine stops. I watched an entire tv show while holding my hand against the door, and did a load of dishes. Please help. What is the solution???

Hi Howard, Thank you for your inquiry. There are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the door latch again, but also the door strike, the detergent and rinse dispenser, the door spring, the spring linkage, the bottom door gasket and the tub gasket. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
