The latch broke on my dishwasher and one of the rollers went missing
The repair was extremely easy!!!!!!!! All I had to do was unscrew the 6 screws on the inside of the door panel. After that I had to unscrew the 2 screws that attached the latch to the panel. Once they were off I just pulled off the 4 wires from the old latch and slid them back on the corresponding metal "tongs" of the new latch. I attached the latch to the panel with the 2 screws. After that I pushed the panel back onto the door and screwed the 6 screws back in......voila.....all done(-:

Dishwasher latch broken, knob broken on load size switch on washer
For the clothes washer, I removed the back of the control panel, which allowed acces to the broken switch. One screw attached the switch to the chassis, which I removed. I removed 4 electrical wires and a vacuum line from the switch and attached them to the new switch, and installed it. Reinstalled the control panel, after checking function of the new switch.

The dishwasher needed a new door latch, so I removed the screws attaching the face plate assembly from the door. This allowed acces to the broken latch, which was attached with two screws. Removal of the latch and wires was easy, as was installing the new latch in reverse order of disassembly. I replaced the door gasket as it came in the kit, and it's installation was a snap.

Total repair time for both appliances was perhaps one half hour.

Broken Handle & Latch
Intuitive repair if you are one of those people that take things apart & put them back together for kicks. Nothing fancy about this repair, as all the parts have no adjusting. Remove the 6 phillips heads screws on the inside of the dishwasher panel. The front electric panel comes off, leaving the inside exposed with the wires. Unhook 4 wires to the handle. Remove (2) star shaped screw headed screws. (The most difficult part if you don't have this bit.) New handle can only go in one way. Re-attach wires & screw panel back on. The latch required pulling the dishwasher out a couple inches from under the countertop to access the mounting screws. The dishwasher is held in place with 2 screws into the countertop/or side cabinet. Slide dishwasher out. Remove 2 screws and replace. Once again, there is only one way the latch can be installed. All is good, and easily accomplished in 5 minutes....if you have the "star" bit, which does come in a couple different sizes.

Our latch had broke and and needed to be replaced.
This repair project was easy enough that my 15 yr old son had it almost all done without me. The hardest part was getting the wires unplugged from the old latch. Once we got the pliers out to help us get a grip, everything went smoothly!
This was a quick and easy fix for an older dishwasher that still works!

latch lift handle broken, door switch not connecting
Turn off power. Took out screws holding control cover on, (left loose and hanging in the front of the door by the connector wires).Disconnected the two wires at the bottom of the switch. Removed two torx screws, pulled switch out. Reversed procedure to install new switch (which isan exact replacement). turned power back on, tested door latch, washer works perfectly again.

Door latch broken
This was a dishwasher that my employer threw out due to the excessive time it was going to take getting the broken part - all of the appliance stores I contacted had them backordered. Since I'm a DIY and Internet savvy person, I decided to go to the Internet page and use the IPB to determine the correct part, and ordered it. I installed the dishwasher, and waited...
10 days after ordering the part, it came right to my door. Installation was very simple; remove 7 Phillips screws from the front panel to access the latch mechanism, remove the two Torx screws holding the latch assembly, disconnect the wires from the latch assembly, and do the reverse procedure to re-install. No latch alignment was necessary, just screw the assembly right back in place. (Yes, I made sure the power had been disconnected!) The door gasket did not need to be replaced at this time.
A very quick and simple procedure for the DIY-type person that can handle simple tools.

Latch handle broke due to age and heat stress on plastic.
The repair was relatively easy and I probably saved enough money as to not have to buy another dishwasher. The part alone was $42. A service call and installation would have made it not cost effective to fix.
The control panel is loosened with phillips head screws on the inside of the door. The latch is attached with the "star" shaped screws. I did not own one of these drivers so I had to leave the house to get one. I used pliers to disconncet the clips from their connections as to not pull the wires from the clips.

Water leak and broken latch
We knew the latch was broken, but operational if you held it just right. I disconnected the water line and electricity to slide the dishwashwer out from the cabinet. Determined that hose had been chewed through by a mouse. Ordered the parts. when they arrived, changed the hose, slid the dishwasher back into place and tested. No leaks. then removed 6 screws to remove the face, 2 more screws and the wires to remove the broken latch, reversed the processed to replace and replaced the old seal. Loaded the dishwasher and it works like new.

door latch broke off
After watching the repair video, it was 'easy as pie'. I would have thought the gasket was too long and cut it off if not for the video. Thank you. Saved a great deal of money not having to have a repair person do the work. I strongly recommend watching the video.

I purchased the door latch and gasket #ps979850 and when i went to install it and took the old one off, i didn't pay close enough attention to which wires went where and when i hooked them back up (white and black color) on both sides, it kept tripping my breaker. Then i switched wires around and then my whole dishwasher was smoking. Do you think i fried the motor in the dishwasher?
PartSelect logo
Hi Debbie, Thank you for your inquiry. I think you will need to investigate where inside the dishwasher it started smoking to verify what part is causing the issue and then proceed to either order a replacement part or maybe get a new appliance if the damage is too bad. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
