Freezer and refrigerator isnt cooling
For model number Gsh25jsxnss
PartSelect logo
Hi Vicki, Thank you for your inquiry. Where your freezer and refrigerator sections are not cooling, there are some parts that may fix this issue for you. You may need to check the temperature sensor, the electronic control board, the defrost heater and bracket assembly, the kit capacitor, the dc condenser fan motor and the evaporator fan motor. You will need to use a multimeter to check the continuity of each part to see which of them is causing the issue. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

I want to replace the defrost thermostat (part no 240 in the diagram) and your part no. Ps966762, but there is no video on your site to show how this should be done. The link for "instructions" shown below the diagram for the part, doesn't take me to a video but only to questions and answers. Can you direct me to an instructional video please?

Hello Den. That is a good question but unfortunately, we do not currently have installation instructions for this particular part. I was able to find an installation video for another GE defrost thermostat. The appliance may be slightly different, as well as the location and look of the thermostat. But the general installation instructions should help you. Good luck with your repair! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UDXBdUlgMs

2 wires coming from evaporator coils with nothing plugged in and in bottom compartment in back of appliance there's a copper line with a coupling that isn't hooked to anything. Neither side of the appliance is getting cold

Hi Vicki, Thank you for your inquiry. It sounds like your evaporator fan motor, part number PS1019114, is not connected correctly. There is video as well as installation instructions listed under the information on the evaporator fan motor on our website that you may reference to make sure the part is connected correctly. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Had a repair man replace a temp sensor in the freezer compartment . The first time he cleaned the compressor and tube . Our freezer temp still goes up to 14 . I thought it might be the thermostat . Any suggestions
For model number GSH25ISZBSS

Hello Frank, thank you for inquiring. If your freezer is too warm, there are a few possible fixes. Besides the Temperature Sensor, you may want to replace the Electronic Board part PS12069099, the Defrost Heater and Bracket Assembly part PS303781, or the Evaporator Fan Motor part PS1019114. We hope this helps.

I replaced the evaporator fan motor and my fan still does not work. What would be the next step?
For model number PSHS6RGXCDSS
PartSelect logo
Hello Aldona, Thanks for your question. You may want to check the fan blade as well to see if there are any obstructions keeping it from operating. Also check the wiring to make sure there are no loose connections. If that is all intact, consider replacing the main control board. Be sure to test the evaporator fan motor to see if it has continuity with a multi-meter as well. I hope this helps.

Everything in my freezer is covered in frost and has actual ice build up. The “spikey” cools don’t look grossly frosted. Frankly the ones in the bottom are more frosted despite being closer to the defrost heater. I tested the defrost heater with my voltmeter and it appears ok. The freezer fluctuates quite a bit in temperature, between -10 and briefly passes +30 occasionally, averaging around 0. What could be wrong?

Hello Marcus, Thank you for the question. I suggest testing the defrost thermostat, PartSelect Number PS966762.The best way to do this is to remove the thermostat from the refrigerator so you can control the temperature of the sensor. You can let the sensor warm up to room temperature. With the sensor warmed up to room temperature the sensor should read approximately 6.2K Ohms at 68°F. With the thermistor submerged is a glass full of ice water, the sensor should be very close to 32°F which should read approximately 16.3K Ohms. If the values that you are getting are far off from these readings, then the sensor is bad and should be replaced. Hope this helps!

How hot is the defrost heater supposed to get? Mine clocked well over 150 f, the metal plate in front of it was too hot to touch (would have easily melted plastic and ruined food). Curious if I need a new thermostat?
