Ice Maker stopped dispensing ice through Ice Maker Dispensor.
After taking Ice Maker's ice collection container out, I noticed that the plastic cup drive was broken. I did a websearch for repair and replacement parts for our GE refrigerator. I found PartSelect website easy to navigate and find the replacement part necessary...and placed an order.

Once I received the shipment, I placed the Cup Drive into position and used the flat edge of a knife to allow the Cup Drive to slide into the tight-fitting position necessary. After positioning into place, I placed the ice collection bin back into the freezer...turned the ice-maker back on...and waited for ice to be made. A day later, the ice maker had produced enough ice to test the ice maker's dispensing mechinism. The cup drive worked perfectly...and ice began to be dispensed. The dispensor has been working ever since.

I also replace the ice and water filter...another very easy task...of unscrewing the old and replacing with the new filter. After replacing the filter, I let the water dispensor run for 2 minutes to flush all air out the system. The water dispensor work perfectly.

Replace Broken Drive Cup
This was the second time in two years I had to replace a broken drive cup. Remove four screws that fasten the ice bin to the frame. Remove one screw that fastens the cube-crushed ice lever to the bin. Do not remove the lever and spring from the bin. Move the lever to expose the connection to the cube-ice shield. Push the lever to compress the spring and remove the lever end from the cube-ice shield. The cube-crushed ice assembly is a press fit and should pry away from the bin. Two issues. 1- The threaded plastic bearing on the dispenser end had turned all the way in causing the end of the dispenser screw shaft to bore through the housing and trap the shaft onto the housing. I had to insert a pry between the housing and the dispenser mechanism to release the shaft from the hole it had bored. Then the dispenser mechanism separated easily and the drive cup replacement was simple. 2- Why was the drive cup breaking? When I used "quick ice" the freezing tray over-filled causing the cubes to freeze together at the top. The bonded cubes then got trapped in the dispenser screw and jammed a lump of ice into the end of the bin causing enough pressure on the plastic drive cup to break it. Lesson - Check the ice bin frequently for frozen lumps of ice. If present, empty the bin and make sure only properly formed cubes are present. Run the dispenser frequently to prevent ice cubes from freezing together.

ice dispenser would not turn
It appeared that the helix lock wore out first, then the cutter teeth dug into the side of the plastic housing. Then the cup drive broke in half from the helix being jammed. Removed the ice bin from the refrigerator. removed 4 screws around the edge of the bin. Pry open clips that hold the auger assembly in place. Remove the clip from the end of the auger. Pry old plate helix lock from holder. Pull out helix auger removing cutters and keeping everything in order. Replace old plate helix lock with new one. Replace cutters in order and tighten nut and install clip. Put new cup drive on end of helix. Snap assembly back together. Replace screws.

Plastic Drive Cup split
I took the four screws out of the ice basket and removed the plastic cup pieces. I then lifted the scress shaft up and put the new cup in. You have pull up very hard on the screw shaft and use two thin flat metal puddy knives to disingage the two plactic stays on each side of the shaft holder. The plactic housing around the screw shaft did not brake, however. I then put the screw shaft and the cup drive in place quite easily. Works fine.

Drive Cup Broke and Helix Cracked
Pulled Ice bin out and emptied ice out of bin. Removed 4 screws holding bin to frame and seperate bin from frame. Takeoff or loosen dispenser arm that has 1 screw holding it. On the sides in the front I pushed tabs in and pulled up on front auger/chip assembly area using two screwdrivers to hold tabs in. Pulling assembly up took a little pressure by hiting down on main ice bin to disengage and watching to see that tabs were also disengaged at same time. After that it was take c-clip off loosen nut and disassemble. You might want to draw a diagram as to how everything was in place or take a picture with your camera phone to make it alot easier for you to remember how everything went. Remove and Replace parts and assemble in reverse.Once you start to do it you'll see how it goes so easy, hopefully I didn't miss to many steps but if I did You'll see what needs to be done to go to the next step.

Ice maker wouldn't dispense ice
ice tray slides right out. 4 philips to remove the bottom, 1 to remove the arm that controls the mode (regular vs. crushed). It just slips into a hole on a wheel at the dispenser end - the same end has two tabs you push in and slide up/out the coil screw that rotates and drives ice out. Once one end is out, it slips out, replace the cup, reverse. This is the 2nd time I've ordered from PartsSelect, both times the part came in just a couple of days, easy navigation on the site, plenty of security validation, etc.

replacing ice maker drive dispensing cup
followed instructions already posted on your website, but had a very difficult time getting the dispensing side of the auger assembly to slide out, even after I disengaged the plastic tabs. There is no easy way or place to grab the assembly to pull it out. Finally turned the unit upside down and pounded on the edges of the assembly with a wood block and a small hammer. Once the part started coming out a couple of inches, I flipped over the ice bin and was able to pull it out the rest of the way, once I had something to grab on to. After the auger assembly was out the cup replacement was easy per posted instructions and the unit snapped back together easily.

Good Day Bob. Thank you for your question in regards to your unit (Model Number GSF25XGRBWW). Based on our research, the reason that this may be happening is that the auger is out of alignment and may need to be reset. Hope this helps. Best Regards.

When we try and get ice, it makes a loud clunking noise like the auger comes out of place. Is this the part we need to make it stop making a noise and have ice again?
For model number GSS25KSW
PartSelect logo
Hi Trina, thank you for your question. It could be this part however I would suggest pulling out the ice bin and taking a look at the parts to see if anything is broken or not. Once you do an inspection of the parts you should be able to see if there is anything broken in there. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.
