ice dispenser would not turn
It appeared that the helix lock wore out first, then the cutter teeth dug into the side of the plastic housing. Then the cup drive broke in half from the helix being jammed. Removed the ice bin from the refrigerator. removed 4 screws around the edge of the bin. Pry open clips that hold the auger assembly in place. Remove the clip from the end of the auger. Pry old plate helix lock from holder. Pull out helix auger removing cutters and keeping everything in order. Replace old plate helix lock with new one. Replace cutters in order and tighten nut and install clip. Put new cup drive on end of helix. Snap assembly back together. Replace screws.

Helix was free wheeling in the ice maker
Helix plate keyed hole was stripped keeping the helix from rotating with the auger. I bought an auger too, but didn't need it as the auger is a harder material than the helix plate and was not worn where the plate contacts it. TAKE PICTURES of the dispenser blades area before taking them off the auger shaft.

Stripped out helix lock, broken bucket glide rails
PITA to take apart, finally had to use two screwdrivers to pry up on the mechanism that turns the auger in order to gain access. Once I figured that out, the rest of the repair was a breeze.

Ice maker produces ice , but does not dispense ice cubes
Followed step by step guide on YouTube w Matt. Taking it apart fairly easy , putting it back ( grinder teeth) was not. After all the work , plus new helix plate , it still does not dispense. Now thinking maybe it needs another new drive cup. Who knows. Frustrated

If the ice dispenser helix and plate helix lock do not turn with the auger, does that mean the plate helix lock need to be replaced?
For model number PSIC5RGXCFBV
PartSelect logo
Hi Jerry, Thank you for your question. Yes I would say so. It could be that the middle portion of the helix could be worn out so it is not catching correctly. You would definitely be able to see if there is any wear and tear if you take the parts off and inspect them. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.
