Constant Clicking from the igniters
I first removed the top of the cooktop, which was 12 screws with a special star shape to them. Then had to pull the igniters out with some pliers (they have a really tight fit). Then remove the harness. Then I replaced the harness. After assembling, I replaced one of the ceramic igniters due to it being covered in baked on grease. Worked perfectly after that. I thank PartSelect for having super fast delivery. I ordered my parts on a Monday, they were at my doorstep the very next day, I was like WOW. And I chose regular shipping. Thank you very much for your service and your salespeople were VERY helpful, even after 3 order changes.

No click or ignition after turning on burner - had to replace Ignitor Switch assembly
Do not remove the gas line.

Take off the burner racks and burner covers

Gently extract/remove the ignitors from each burner. You may have to use pliers, but be careful. They are ceramic.

Once you pull out the ignitors, you can remove the ignitors from their wires using plyers, you may have to twist them a little.

To take off the top - use Star screw drivers to remove the burners

Remove all the burners.

The star screws, and the burners are the only thing holding the top on.

Take off the steel top.

That exposes the ignitor switch assembly.

Make sure you follow the positioning diagram that comes with the new part.

Thats it really.

I removed the gas, because I thought I had to, but you don't need to. You can do the whole job in 30 minutes if you are careful.

Hope it helps.

Shorted out the Spark igniter blew on gas stovetop and I had to repace it
In order to replace the spark igniter switch and harness, order the appropriate model replacement part for your GE gas model. Turn of the circuit breaker if it is not already in the locked off position. Remove grates, gas covers, knobs and all from the cooktop surface. Unscrew all the screws with a clover tipped screw driver. Pull up and out on the 4 porcelain flints at each burner. Lift top up. You will see the part that needs to be replaced to your far right. Unplug it and remove it. Replace and connect the replacement. Reverse the process on opening the stovetop until everything is back in place as before. Flip your circuit breaker back on. Done.

Gas coke top wouldn't lite
First step is to turn off the electrical then disassemble the cook top. It is secured to pan by each of the burner mechanisms. Disconnect the spark wire from each porcelain drip pan. Separate the glass top from the pan. If it's stuck gently slide a putty knife int between the two to separate and carefully set the glass top aside. The spark module was a bit challenging in that the colors of the wires didn't match so if you aren't comfortable with electrical work I would get help. The module didn't fit the bracket so,I had to drill new holes and use self tapping screws to mount it. The other part part I intended to change was the spark igniter switch. Unfortunately the wiring was incompatible so I had to return that part. This top was sold by Kenmore but made by GE and is over 10 years old so I suspect an engineering change obsoleted my part. Overall the job wasn't that bad if you are reasonably mechanical..

This part, does it control the clicking noise you hear when you turn the knob to ignite burner? I have a clicking noise that starts when I plug the stove in and will not stop till I unplug the stove. I shut the stove for a couple days after a full clean and plugged it in and no clicking, once the knob was turned the clicking started and would not stop till I unplugged stove.

Hi Mike, Thank you for the question. Yes the Spark Igniter Switch and Harness Assembly controls the clicking you hear. If there is a constant click the harness will need to be replaced. Hope this helps!

The replacement harness switch has the color of the wires switched compared to the original, has the black wire going to the power cord and the yellow going to the spark module. The replacement has the color of the wire reversed - should i flip the wires to allow for the same color connections or follow the same path as the original and therefore have the blac wire going to the spark module?

Hi Mary, Thank you for your inquiry. There is some information from our website that you may find helpful. It was from a customer comment, "Do not remove the gas line. Hi Jim, thank you for your question. Unfortunately that part has been discontinued by the manufacturer and the manufacturer has not provided an authorized substitute. The only other thing that I could think of would be to contact your manufacturer and see if they have another part from a different model that will work with yours. If they do have another part that will work, get the part number so that you can search it on our website to see the cost of the part. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

My stove top clicks but does not ignite, i have to use a marc to get it to light , is the harness what i need
For model number GE JGP933SEK1SS Gas Cook Top

Hello and thank you for writing. Whether it's grease buildup or food crumbs, one of the most common causes for a gas burner that has trouble igniting is debris blocking gas flow to the igniter. The fix: Begin by removing the grate covering the troubled burner. ... Reinstall the burner, cover and the grill, and try igniting the burner once more. If this does not fix this problem then your ignitor itself PS11736298 might be faulty, you should check the part(s) for signs of damage or test with a multimeter, and replace the part(s) as needed. We hope this helps. Please contact us anytime if you require further assistance.

For model number JGP933BEC238

Hello Douglas, thank you for your question. That sounds like an issue with the spark module, which is part number PS952864. We would recommend replacing the module, and if that doesn't fix the issue the spark switch harness should be replaced. I hope this helps.

We replaced the igniter switch/harness due to constant clicking. Now only one burner will light. Gas flows but no igniter click on the remaining 3 burners.
For model number GE Profile
PartSelect logo
Hi Julie, Thank you for contacting us. If your burners were clicking constantly before replacing the spark igniter switch and harness assembly, the burner caps may have been out of alignment. If the caps are out of alignment reposition them correctly. Constant clicking may also indicate that there is moisture in the burners. If you have cleaned the stovetop recently or if water was spilled on the stovetop, then the burners will click. In this situation, you will need to let the burners dry out for awhile before using them. If you have an oven, you can turn it on and let the heat from the oven dry the surface burners. If 3 of your burners are not clicking after replacing the switch harness, make sure that you have the correct burner caps on the right burners. Make sure the correct burner is selected and match the burner to the correct switch. Check and see if there is power going to the range or cooktop at the plug or home's circuit breaker or fuse box. When turning a burner on, first verify that the burner knob is set to the lite position. Once you see the flame then turn your knob to the setting you want. If this does not help, you may have a defective spark igniter switch and harness assembly. Try the old one again to see it will work. If not, you will need to replace it. We hope this helps! Good luck with the repair!
