There was nothing wrong with the timer, but the cheap, soft plastic post that connected it to the knob broke off inside the knob.
First, I unplugged the dryer, carefully so as not to electrocute myself. Then, I removed the panel on the top, back of the dryer, using a Phillips screwdriver. Then I removed the old timer and unplugged all the connectors, one at a time, so as to make sure I plugged them back in to the correct positions on the new timer. I had to use pliers because they were very hard to remove. Then, I plugged them into the same positions on the new timer, which was easy. Then I replaced the timer into position. Then, because I could not use the old knob since it still had part of the old cheap soft plastic post stuck inside it, I took a knob for the power rinse control off of my washer, since I never use that anyway, and I put it onto the new cheap soft plastic post on the new timer, and it works like a charm. I plan to be very, very gentle with that knob, knowing, as I do, that the post that it turns is not much harder than room temperature butter and that, if I break it, it will cost me over $70 dollars to get another one, and it also will not even contain a new knob, even though the one I borrowed from my washer will be unusable because it will have half of the old post stuck in it. Finally, I replaced the panel on the top, back of the dryer and plugged in the dryer.

Timer locked up, will not turn
From behind the dryer remove the panel directly behind the timer assembly (6 phillips head screws).
Take a picture at this point of how the wires are attached to the timer assembly for reference during reassembly Then remove wires with pliers. Remove T10 Torx screw that retains the timer assembly in place. Remove timer Knob (pull forward). Rotate timer assembly to pop it out.
From here, twist in new timer, use T10 torx to hold in place re-attach wires and reinstall rear panel

Timer controller knob broke off and did not leave enough center pole to attach new knob.
Pulled dryer out from wall and used screwdriver to remove back plate and screw holding timer controller. Once loose I then held new part next to old part and switched wires one at a time, afterwards I replaced back and pushed dryer back into position.

Dryer Timer not functioning
Followed the directions but met resistance when the
timer could not be slipped off the "peg".
This timer was installed with a very small screw to remove
and install the new timer.- Thus, called an electrician
who had the very small screw driver to install the timer!
So $$$$$$$$$$. unhappy about this!

The timer well not turn so if it will not turn the dryer well not work right
For model number HTDX100EM8WW
PartSelect logo
Hi Rick, Thank you for your question. If the timer is not advancing, then it is likely the timer, but I would also check the cycling thermsotat as well to see if it is causing the issue as well. You can test both parts with a multimeter. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
