Dryer would heat initially then cool down
The top of the dryer was easily removed by prying the front up with a screwdriver then tipping it back and off of the mounting brackets. Then the front of the dryer was removed by unscrewing a single screw on each side that held the front to the side panels then pulling the front away from the dryer. Once the front was off, the coils were easily accessible on the bottom left side. A metal bracket held the coils on and was somewhat tough to get the two screws removed on it as they were stuck, but once they were removed the coils easily came out and I was able to replace them in minutes. The whole job took 15-20 minutes and I now have a dryer that heats through the entire drying cycle.

Dryer would heat only on the initial start. Burner would not light again until completely cooled down. The ignitor would energize, but no gas would flow for ignition.
1. Pry Dryer top up and off the clips. (Front of Dryer) 2. Remove 2 phillips screws on the inside of front panel. 3. Lift front panel up and set off to the side 4. Removed 2 phillips screws with short handled phillips driver that hold the gas valve coil bracket in place. 5. Unplugged and removed both coils, installed new coils and bracket. Re installed front panel, screws and top.

No heat, but everything else works. Ran continuity tests on everything and found gas valve solenoid coils open.
Just as others described in your forum, getting to the gas valve solenoid coils is relatively easy. Pop the top lid and lay it back, remove 2 inside screws that fasten the front cover and pull back off the snap clips and lift up and off. Remove 3 screws that hold the entire gas control assembly to the bottom of the dryer and remove. Unfasten 2 screws on the valve that lock the plate on top of the two coils, unplug the electrical spade lug connections and remove. Install the new coils and do everything in reverse. Easy as 1-2-3.

Drying times continued to increase over several months until finally dryer wouldn't dry any more.
I did not troubleshoot my gas dryer to find the exact part that needed to be replaced. Instead, I did some research and found that the ignition coils are an extremely common problem.
The top panel of my gas dryer is attached by two snap clips located in the front, about three inches in from each side. I slid a butter knife in the space between the top panel and the front panel to push the clips and release the top panel. Front panel is attached by two screws, one on each side. I removed the front panel to access the heating system on the bottom left of my dryer and immediately saw the two ignition coils with a metal cover on top of them. Removing the metal cover was a little difficult because the two screws holding it in place were stuck. Once the metal cover is off, the two coils simply slide out. On my dryer, the bigger coil had a metal sleeve inside the core. I kept it and used it with my replacement parts.
The most difficult part of the repair was figuring out how to take appart the dryer to access the heating system. Now, the ol' lady is bragging to her friends that I didn't just fix the dryer, but that i've actually made it better than when it was new ;-)

the burner wouldn't ignite
UNPLUG the appliance. After removing the top of the dryer the front is easily removed. To make life simple I disconnected the wire harrness at the quick disconnect and placed the door/front away from the workspace. I removed the bracket holding the coils in place and replaced the old with the new coils. replaced the front and top panels and pugged it in! Good as new!! I originally ordered the wrong part and PART'S SELCET.COM refunded my money no problem! I will bookmark this site and use it again.

No heat/intermittent heat. Ignitor glowed but no gas flame.
White Westinghouse WDG547PB Dryer. Removed access panel (lower left front of dryer) by removing phillips head screw below access panel. Removed two phillips head screws holding bracket that holds coil in place. Removed coil, disconnected electrical connector. Connected electrical connector to new coil and set in place. Repeat for second coil. Reinstall bracket and access panel. Job complete. Dryer back in service with no problems.

Drying too slowly
Removed access plate from back bottom left Removed belt from motor Needed to lift up top of dryer Inserted flathead screwdirver in front under top to push in two metal clips holding top down Lifted up top of dryer Removed 2 screws holding on front of dryer Removed front of dryer Broke Door Switch removing front of dryer. I should have depressed the metal sides in and pulled switch through hole. Instead, I tried to remove the leads. This broke the fragile prongs. Started dryer (with belt removed so drum doesn't spin) Verified ignightor came on every heating cycle Gas turned on properly Gas turned off after 90 seconds Gas never came back on Indicitive of bad coils New coils solved the problem Replaced door switch and lint trap cover in the process.
Internet Search suggested that I check the Igniter, Sensor, thermal cutoff and Ignition Coils. down in the bottom of the Gas Dryer. With top cover off and front panel on, I put a mirror down in the bottom of the Dryer. I watched to see if the Igniter and the Sensor would turn on the Gas Valve. In the reflection of the Mirror, I could see a glow, but heard NO clicks. Repeated several times. Same Result. I suspected the Ignition Coils were faulty.
You suggested replacing BOTH. Parts arrived in 2 days. :-) Easy disassemble and reassemble with screwdriver. (Front Panel must be removed). While I was at it, I replaced the Drive Belt, too. It was 6 years old. Everything worked fine. After 6 years in a Garage, the Dryer was filled with Dust. Use the opportunity to Vacuum out the dust.
Unplug the unit. The top of the dryer is held down by 2 simple friction pins. By lifting the dryer top above it's front door panel the top will swing up. Prop the top up so you can reach down the front panel. There are 2 Phillips screws about 6 inches down on the dryers front panel. Remove the 2 screws, tip the front panel toward you it will slip off the dryer drum. Remove the 2 push on wires attached to the door switch. Gently lift the front panel off the 2 hinge points at the bottom and set it aside. The parts that your going to replace are the 2 solenoids on the burner assembly. The burner assembly is located on the lower left side of the dryer. Remove the 2 Philips screws that "clamp" the solenoids in place. Pull the 3 & 2 wire friction connectors off the solenoids. Lift the clamp off the top of the solenoids. Pick the 2 solenoids up off the valve assemble. Put the 2 new solenoids on the valve assembly push the wires back on, put the clamp back on and resemble the dryer. *Note: just to make a quick check on the continuity of the solenoids. I suspended the dryer drum so it could rotate without damaging it, put my clamp on amp probe on the 120v line to the solenoids the 3 wire one was good the 2 wire one was open.

Dryer would not heat up
First I removed two screws holding a bracket that keeps the two ignition coils in place and removed the wires to the two coils. I replaced the old coils with the new coils, re-attached the wires and re-secured the bracket. I also replace the door catch simply using a flat head screw driver to remove the broken catch and pushed in the new catch. The Lint Screen is a simple replacement requiring no tools.

I change the igniter because was not lighting and then was still the same, I check for power to the igniter and was going power but still not lighting.

Hi Sam, Thank you for the question. I suggest trying to replace the 'M' Series Ignition Coil Kit,PartSelect Number PS470049. You can also test them with a Multi-Meter. The two prong coil will read 1,000-1,300 ohms, and the three prong coil will read 1,300-1,400 ohms across prongs 1&2, and 500-600 ohms across prongs 1&3. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your inquiry. In most cases this part is the problem and needs to be replaced. You could also check your radiant flame sensor with a multi-meter to see if that part is malfunctioning at all. That is the second most likely part to cause a problem like this. While you are testing parts I would also suggest testing your control thermistor as well. Good luck with your repair!
My dryer is not heating up. I had the issue of it not turning and ordered a drum belt from you and got that issue fixed. I read your previous replies about checking the coils with a multi meter to see if they are bad. Before I remove the coils to check them, do I need to turn off the gas to the dryer? I have a multi meter to check with.

Dryer will dry for awhile then shut off. Have been using dryer on touch up setting. This dries but only cycles for 15 minutes at low heat setting. Is my issues in the moisture sensor? Thank you.

Hi, i am replacing the coils on a combo dryer. The instructions above seem to be for a stand alone. How do i replace these coils and also the starter switch? Thanks for any help.

Hello Jim, thank you for your question. Even though the repair video is for a stand alone dryer, the installation on your unit would be the same. Once you gain access to the heater section, by removing the slanted panel under the dryer control panel, there will be a safety cover that can be removed. All the heater, coils, thermostats should be visible from there. You could then follow the following instructions for installing the coils:
Remove 2 Phillips screws with short handled Phillips driver that hold the gas valve coil bracket in place. Unplug and remove both coils, installed new coils and bracket. Re installed safety panel, screws and slanted cover.

Hello Rich, Thank you for the question. I suggest checking the Control Thermistor, PartSelect Number PS1149368.This part controls the temperature of the inside of the dryer drum. This part is located in the blower housing. This part can be tested with a multi-meter. It should ready 50K ohms of resistance at 77 degrees F. Thank you for your inquiry, good luck with this repair!
