Charcoal Air Filters Specifications

This is a package of 2 filters. The charcoal filter is used in microwaves to remove food odors from the air. If your filter is damaged or strong odors are coming from your microwave, it is best to replace this part. The only tool needed for this repair is a Phillips screwdriver. First, remove screws at the top of microwave to access the filter. Next, remove filter and insert new filter by pushing it all the way back, so the edges hit the two tabs. The front edge of the filter should rest at the bottom of the cavity. Make sure to replace the grill after installing the new filter. Remember to unplug your microwave from the power source before the installation process. This part is metallic and measures about 12 inches wide and 6 inches deep.

Vent Grille was broken and exterior door panel was completely cracked and part of it had fallen off.
I actually followed one of your previous buyers who had the same issue as I. Replacing the grille vent is easy. The door was just a little harder as I wanted to make sure I did not break the glass. Unscrewed and popped off the old pane and snapped the new one in place and put the screws back in. On a side note your site was very easy to use and easy to find the parts I needed quickly.

Burned out light under microwave and Filters needed changing
I just removed the multiple screws which held the hood cover on. I then attempted to remove the light bulbs from the socket. This proved impossible because the bulbs were so fragile from the heat and grease build up. To make this task much easier and probably safer, just replace the bulb housing and light bulb. The bulb housing unplugs very easily. Just replace it then screw your new bulb in. P.S. Be sure to unplug appliance before you start.

The filters are very easy to replace. No tools needed.

Hope this helps.

replace charcoal filters and grease screens and clean top exit ports
Removed old grease screens by sliding sideways and then pulling out of the grooves. (helps to have rubber gloves as the grease is slippery). Put pressure on the back of the charcoal filter rim and allow side closest to you to drop down slightly so you can get a fine flatblade screwdriver under and pop the filter out of the holder. Works same on both sides. Install new charcoal filters after cleaning the holder edges with soap and water and drying. Make sure charcoal filter is in the second set of holder grooves and snap in place. Replace new grease filters with the pull tabs down and facing the center. Slide the grease filter into the holder grooves a little further back than normal and (using the pull tabs) pull the filter back the other way until flush with the opening and in place. The top exit ports are removed by taking out 4 screws;however, two of them are attached to spring clips on the underside and it is easy to break off the tiny plastic ridges underneath. The other screws come out easily and the entire exit port piece can be removed and cleaned. To reinstall just snap exit port back in place and replace screws. If you have broken off the slender plastic ridges you can sometimes turn the screww a partial turn and engage what is left; if not you may have to put some rubber grommets or pieces to support the bottom and keep pressure on the exit port piece which is not locked by only two screws.

Not too bad
Our Microwave Vent Grill was broken - and since I was ordering online, I figured I'd get the two filters as well. The Vent Grill was fairly easy to install. It was a little tricky getting it to fit in, but once in, it was just a matter of screwing in at the top.

The Filters were another matter. The FILTR-GRSE came out very easy, but what I didn't realize was when I ordered it, it only came in packs of 1. The Charcoal Air Filter came in packs of 2, so I assumed both did. Why, when you need two of each of these, do they sell one in single packages - and the other in packs of two? The Charcoal Air Filters were only replaceable by unscrewing the bottom of the microwave. The FILTR-GRSE were easy enough to just pop out.

Overall, not that bad of an install.

The charcoal filters needed to be replaced
I dropped the grease filters ( two under the unit) and then removed the dirty charcoal filters. The new charcoal filters were then snapped into place and the washed grease filters were then put back. The entire job took about. 5 minutes. No tools needed.

Dirty filters
It was a simple replacement of grease filter and charcoal filter in microwave/hood combination. I did use a screw driver to pry out the filters, but otherwise no tools. It was easy and straightforward.

Thought filters should be changed after 5 years of use.
Used hands to slide filters sideways, till they could be pried out with screwdriver or bare hands. When new parts arrived, easily slide new filters into position. In hindsight, we did not need to replace grease filter. I was able to clean one of those with ordinary dish soap, warm water, and a brush.

Hi Michael, Thank you for your question. It sounds like it is your charcoal filters that you are looking for, which would be this part that you have questioned on. If you need to replace your grease filter you could replace those but you should not need anything else. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Hello I have a Jenn-air and wonder if these go under the grease filters? I am finding the vent fan does nothing for odours when cooking. The dimensions are a bit short for the grease filters I already have. They are about 6”x13.5”. Thanks

What is the difference between a grease filter and a charcoal filter? The charcoal filter that i have now has tabs. Doesn't appear that part #ps382960 (which replaces 4393690) has tabs.
For model number MH7140XF
PartSelect logo
Hi Deborah, Thank you for your question. The charcoal filter is used in microwaves to remove food odors from the air. If your filter is damaged or strong odors are coming from your microwave, it is best to replace this part. A grease filter is like an air filter that filters the air for the microwave. If the microwave exhaust fan is not circulating air properly, there could be an issue with the grease filter. A dirty filter will cause your microwave to run less efficiently and can alter the taste or smell of your food. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

For model number 665.68610891

Hello Anne, thank you for your inquiry! We recommend having a charcoal filter in your microwave as they absorb old odors and prevents them from recirculating into future meals. However, the correct part number for the filter is PS382960. I hope this information helps!
