Dryer not heating
Our dryer is 8 years old and had been slowly taking longer and longer to dry clothes, to the point that I was ready to purchase a new one. When the dryer stopped heating completely, I removed the bottom panel and found that the heating element was no longer working. I checked online and found this website. The top two recommended fixes for this issue was to replace the heating element and/or thermal cut-off kit (two sensors). I chose to purchase both, delivered to me very quickly (two days). I figured for $80 you can't go wrong. Here's the procedure I followed:

On my particular model, the back does NOT come off and all of my repairs had to be made via the front, bottom panel.

(1) disconnected 6 wires (3 pairs) from the heating element and two thermal sensors
(2) removed entire heating element 'sleeve" which contained both the heating element AND the two sensors. The space is way too tight to try and do this any other way (and I highly recommend this method to save a ton of time and frustration.)
(3) vaccummed out the entire inside of the dryer, clearing all lint and debris, including tons of lint creating a blockage, thus slowing the ability to dry over the years
(4) replaced sensors and heating element
(5) installed heating element & Thermal sensors back inside and reconnected all wires
(6) tested dryer to ensure that heating element lit up and produced heat - it worked beautifully!

Besides fixing the heating issue, cleaning out the clogged lint pipe at the back of the dryer and wall have made the old dryer new again. It's working better than ever!

No Heat When Drying
I followed the tips from the repair video. Easy as 1-2-3. I changed both the heating element as well as the thermal cut off. Went ahead and repaired the door catch. Brand new dryer for the next 10 years. I do advise to pull out your shop vac and remove the tons of lint that accumulates in the bottom. A definite fire hazardous. I do attest that this web site is the best by far.

Drum of the dryer was rotating but no heating
First I removed the back cover (several screws). Then, I disconected wires from the high-limit thermostat and the thermal cut-off fuse (both of these parts were included in the Thermal Cut-Off Kit). Then, I removed four screws that hold these two parts, replaced the parts, put the screws back, and attached the wires. Finally, I put back the cover.

Dryer motor runs, drum turns but no heat.
Removed the back of the dryer. Used a multimeter set to read Ohms to check each Thermal cut-off switch. Each one read with continuity and some resistance. The one that was bad read open. So i replaced this one and the other one that came in the kit since i already paid for both. Then i replaced the back ran the dryer and it worked great.

No heat
Wife completed the element and thermal cutoff installation while I was at work. The leads to the cutoff were removed, the screws removed the new parts were screwed in and the wires reconnected. The hardest part was putting the face back on the dryer. Partselect was a great source of information and the delivery was fast. Dryer works great.

too long to dry
First I removed the two screws that hold the element in place. I then pulled the element out about 3 inches and disconnected the two wires, then connect the two wires into new element, and put the element back in place, and put the back cover, now it getting really hot, and save me a lot of time and money on energy too.

Dryer runs heats up, will run for a short period and then shuts down, after a minute or two it will come back on and will resume drying.
Replaced the thermastat first, then the cutoff switch, still the same, I then replaced the thermister, and still have the problem.

The dryer suddenly started running cold - it would turn, the timer worked...but no heat. My wife mentioned that it had been taking longer and longer to dry a load of clothes....
Popped the lower cover off the dryer, found the thermal fuse and thermostat mounted on the heating tube. Removed the screws with a nutdriver, swapped wires to the new parts, and reinstalled. Then I spent 30 minutes vacuuming 13 years worth of lint and crud out of the machine - it was pretty gummed up in spots, which is probably the cause of the failure.
I have a 25 foot run of hose from the dryer outside, so I replaced that with 4" metal ducting. Clothes dry much faster now!!! Maybe my electric bill will go down (fat chance :) )

Dryer would not generate heat
My dad was ready to spend $2000 on a new washer/dryer (he has to have a matching set!). Anyway, his dryer would not generate heat. A google search turned up partselect.com, which walked me through the procedure to see what we needed.

It turned out to be a simple to replace $25.00 part! The dryer is drying as if it was brand new. Saved $1,975. Hehe.

Thanks, partselect!

Dryer is turning off prematurely. I input my model number into the website to see what might be the problem and it looked like it could be the cycling thermostat (thermostat internal bias part # wp3387134) . However, i do not see that part in my dryer. Instead, i see the high limit thermostat and fuse cut-off. Is there a cycling thermostat and a high limit thermostat in this unit, and if so, where exactly is the cycling thermostat located?

Hi David, Thank you for the question. The cycling thermostat is attached to the blower housing. Hope this helps!

Mr Whirlpool electric dryer clothes coming out are extremely hot where they are burning me when i take them out of the dryer. I am confused on which part i may need. One part includes the thermal cut off kit that includes both of these 2 parts a 250 degree high limit thermostat and a thermal cut off fuse limit 360 degrees. The other part i am thinking i may need is the cycling thermostat limit 135/155. If you can lead me in the right direction, i would appreciate it.

Hi David, Thank you for your question. I would actually suggest testing all of your thermostats with a multimeter to see if they are all working correctly. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

No dryer heat
For model number 96588210

Hello Tim, thank you for your question. I would recommend testing the thermostats in the appliance first. Alot of times, the Thermostat, Internal-Bias Part Number: WP3387134 and Disposable Thermal Fuse - Two Terminal Part Number: WP3390719 are the most common thermostats to go. However, I would recommend testing all the thermostats first to be sure there isn't another blown thermostat. I hope this helps!

My dryer does not work on the high heat or cotton setting but works on all of the others. I am not sure what part needs to be replaced, please advise?
For model number 110.67741600
PartSelect logo
Hello David, Thanks for your question. You will want to test the thermal fuse, thermal cut-off kit, internal-bias thermostat, heating element, and high limit thermostat with a multimeter to see if they have continuity. Replace any that do not have electrical continuity. I hope this helps.

I have a Kenmore dryer and the heating element would stay on even after the dryer shut off and now it doesnt heat at all. Could it need a heating element and thermostat? Im not sure if i want to tackle the job or not but i love this dryer. Thank you! Diane
PartSelect logo
Hello Diane, thank you for contacting us. This could be from a bad heating element, if it has shorted out it could keep creating heat. You can inspect the element to see if it is broken and welded to the housing/ground. Good luck with the repair!

I found the cycling thermostat on the blower housing just where you said it would be. However, even after removing the lint trap and lint trap housing, the cycling thermostat is pretty tightly pinned between the blower housing and the upper drum. Do i have to remove the blower housing just to get to the cycling thermostat? If so, i may have to turn this over to a professional.

My dryer doesn't heat up at all and there is power at the heater element what could be the problem? Thanks
For model number 11065922400
PartSelect logo
Hi Jose, Thank you for your question. If the dryer is not heating, the thermal cut-off is one part that you will have to check. There are some other parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the thermal fuse, the internal bias thermostat, the heating element, the heating element connection wire, the high limit thermostat, the electrode sensor and the door switch. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
