Having trouble maintaining consistent temp. In fridge. & freezer. Either extremely cold or food in freezer starts to thaw. Fridge goes from freezing to 50 deg. Appears to run too long, then shuts off for too long. Is this the part i need?

Hello Dale, thank you for contacting us. That does sounds like it would be the thermostat, if the thermostat is giving false readings then you will have inconsistent temperatures in the fridge and freezer. Good luck with the repair!

Drain tray and tube at back bottom of freezer which drains to small cup in the top of refrigerator was all froze solid. Emptied everything and thawed overnight. Upon restart it appears the refrigerator is getting too cold. Even set in the middle to #3 fridge was at 26 degrees and still cooling. Refrigerator finally shut off when backed down to #2 so will see where it stabilizes. If fridge is below 32 probably explains why this froze up originally. Which part controls refrigerator temp? Suggestions? Thank you.

Hello Jack, thank you for your question. There are two parts you should check, first we recommend checking your Bi-Metal Defrost Thermostat, part number PS11750673. You can test this with a multi meter. Unplug your refrigerator and remove the thermostat. There are numbers on the side of the thermostat. The first number next to the L is the limit temperature that the thermostat opens up at. To get the closing temperature you have to take the first number and subtract the second number. This will give you the temperature that the thermostat closes at. Place the thermostat in a working freezer. Test for continuity while the thermostat is colder than the closing temperature. Place a probe on each of the thermostat's terminals. The thermostat should have continuity. While the thermostat is warmer than the opening temperature it should not have continuity. The second part you should check would be the defrost timer, part number PS11723171. To test your defrost timer remove it from the refrigerator. Test between terminals three and four. The meter should read continuity. Test the terminals three and two. It should not have continuity. Now take a flat head screw driver and turn the defrost control on the back of the timer until you hear a click. Repeat the continuity tests. They should be reversed. If any of the tests are different then what is stated, replace the defrost timer. Good luck with your repair.

I have a Kenmore refrigerator that is freezing things. At first, i could turn the knob and frig would not turn off until it got to off. I then shut frig off for a couple hours and then turned it back on. Now the thermostat clicks and turns off the fan/cooler frig at a lower number when the knob is turned manually but won't shut fan/cooler off on its own when left overnight. Is part 1123394 the correct part to fix this?

Hello James, Thank you for your inquiry. It does sound like it, but to make sure, you can test the part with a multimeter to see if it has continuity. Hope this helps!
