Freezer wouldn't go into defrost mode
I first noticed that my fridge was not getting cold, after some investigation I realized that the coil was frozen in the freezer, which blocked the flow of cold air into the refrigerator. I noticed that the heater element was not getting hot, so it couldn't melt the ice off of the coil. I first started out by changing the cheapest parts first...The first was the defrost thermostat (the piece that clips on to the coil), no luck. Then I replaced the heater element itself, no luck. Then it dawned on me, I first noticed my problem about a week after a major power outage (hurricane Irene)...When the power came back on, it must have zapped my defrost control board. I changed this out (it's located in the fridge section on the top left hand side under a molded piece of plastic behind the temperature controls. The new control box that came was orange, and the original was black...This didn't prove to be a problem, because after a 15 min. swap out, my fridge now works perfectly. So after about a total of $100.00 spent on parts my fridge now works perfectly.

Hi Greg, Thank you for your question. If you have replaced the timer and it is still freezing over, you will need to check the defrost heater with a multimeter to see if it is working correctly. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

How do you advance the timer to defrost mode?
For model number frs6r5esbn
PartSelect logo
Hi Greg, Thank you for your question. Before you begin any repair please unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet or turn the circuit breaker off. Locate the defrost timer in your refrigerator. Once you have found it, turn the advance screw clockwise until you hear it click. Restore power to the refrigerator. The defrost timer should now be in the defrost mode. If the compressor turns on after 30-40 minutes, the cooling mode has been turned back on. If this happens, disconnect power to the refrigerator and remove the timer from the refrigerator to test it to see if it is working correctly. Set your multimeter to read ohms on the RX1 or X1 setting (depending on the type of multimeter you have, check the manual for the multimeter). Locate the four terminals on the defrost timer. Find the terminal labelled C or 3. If the timer is not labelled, look at the connector plug to determine which terminal gets connected to the white wire; that is the common terminal. When you touch the terminals on the defrost timer, it should read zero and the remaining one or two should read "infinity." Turn the advance screw again until you hear the click and then probe the terminals again. This time, the results should be reversed. The terminals that read zero earlier should now read infinity and the other should now read zero. If it does not show these readings, you will need to replace the timer. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

How to test this part is working or not? Is this adapter defrost control board new?
For model number Frs23r4cw3
PartSelect logo
Hello John, thank you for contacting us. To test whether the defrost control board is working properly or not, a continuity test may be required to check the defrost thermostat and defrost heater. If the continuity test is good, then the defrost control board is malfunctioning. The parts we provide are new and OEM. We hope this helps.
