Dryer would not start
The end repair was very simple and took minimal effort. The time and difficulty was all in the testing. I disassembled the dryer and removed the drum and then hard wired each thermo-fuse to determine where the fault was. After test all of those I was stumped. When I opened the door the light would not come on so I assumed it was a power fault closer to the source. However after all of my testing I couldn't find anything wrong. I then removed the light bulb and realized it was burned out which led me to the door switch being the fault. I removed the switch and soldered the three wire together and the dryer started right up! All I had to do was order a new $15 part, unsolder the wires and plug them in. Would have been so much simpler if that light bulb hadn't of been burned out causing me to over think my diagnosis. This was my first major appliance repair and I did it with only the help of the parts diagram provided on the website.

Dryer would not start.
First unplug dryer to prevent electrical shock. To remove the front of the dryer, open the door in top left and top right corners is a machine screw. They can be removed with a Phillips screw driver. Lift the top slightly and let front fall forward about 6 inches, lift slightly. Two wire will be connected to the switch in the door. remove the wires and squeeze the tabs on both sides of the switch and push it out. Push new switch in to replace old switch and reassemble.

Why this Hotpoint dryer has only two (2) wire connections to the door switch part (one brown and one white) while the door switch has 3 hookups. How can I connect them correctly?
For model number HTDX100EM8WW

Hi Hoang, Thank you for the great question. This switch is used on more then one model, some models have a light inside the drum and the wire for the light connects to the extra connector on the switch. Your model number does not require this and you just leave that connector empty. Here is a link to the video on how to install the switch. Good luck with the repair! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PplQ8nYObrE

Hello Dennis, Thank you for your inquiry. We would recommend checking the following parts to fix your issue: high limit thermostat, inlet control thermostat, cycling thermostat, door switch, and main control board. You can test the parts with a multimeter. Hope this helps!

Some times when you open door it trips the breaker at the panel

Hi Bill, Thank you for the question. I suggest replacing the door switch. In most cases with the breaker tripping it is caused by a defective door switch. Hope this helps!

Our dryer won't start quite a bit and when it does, it sometimes shuts off early. The only way to get it started again is to hit the top center of the dryer. I have recently replaced the top bearing and a few other parts, but before i go and replace more switches i was wondering if there was a common issue? Door switch, strike, and latch have all been replaced. Waiting on the harness sensors so they can be installed. This time, when load was started in ran for a few minutes, beeped, stopped, and went to 0 on the control board. Could it be the control board? Or the lint trap and sensors? All connections were checked.

Hi James, Thank you for your question. I would suggest taking a look at the wires on your control board. If you have to hit the top of the panel it could be that there is a loose wire. If there is not, you may have to look into your board being the issue. You could also check your door switch to see if it is malfunctioning. You should be able to test that part with a multi meter to know for sure. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Hi Jim, Thank you for the question. I woudl first check for any lose connections in the wiring. If you can hit the appliance and have it start then there is something lose. You can check the Interlock Switch and the Door Catch to make sure they are secure as well. Hope this helps!
