Our fridge regularly ices up on the coils and eventually impeds fan operation requires extensive defrost and disassembly?... bimetal thermostat and or defrost element
For model number PFSF6PKXCWW
Hi Doug, Thank you for the question. You can look the defrost heater over to see if there is any physical damage. Most cases you will be able to see a burn mark or a sport where it burnt out.You can also test the Bimetal,PartSelect Number PS2322734 and the Temperature sensor, PartSelect Number PS2323251 with an Multi Meter and check for continuity. The resistance for the sensor at room temp should be 5K ohms. Hope this helps!

The refrigerator temp works okay but the freezer is not getting cold enough. I set the frig at 38 and the freezer at -2. The frig goes to 38 but the freezer only to 20. I also unplugged it to maybe reboot the system that didn't work. I'm thinking its the temp sensor in the freezer part.

Hello Richard, thank you for contacting us. It could be a few things that cause this. You would want to make sure the coils in the freezer and by the compressor are all clean/no ice build up. It could be the defrost cycles are on too long preventing the freezer from getting to the proper temp, that would be the bi metal defrost thermostat which can be tested with a multi-meter. It could also be the compressor, make sure it kicks on properly and the condenser fan runs, you can also test the start relay and capacitor for the compressor as well with a multi-meter. Good luck with the repair!
I had a reading of 23.99k ohms while thermistor was in the freezer was cold less than 32 degrees ios the thermistor ok. The defrost sensor read continuity

Water is accumulating under the meat drawer and freezing. We have unclogged the drains from the ice and have turned the refrigerator back on. Overnight it has put water under the drawer but has not frozen YET. Why is water accumulating under the meat drawer?
For model number PFSS6PKXASS
Hi Martha,
Thank you for your question. When water drains, it can sometimes carry food debris along with it. If water is starting to pool under your crisper drawers again, the drain is likely clogged again and it will need to be cleaned. We hope this helps!
your previous answer helped but drain still remained clogged. Styrofoam debris and rust from the back panel had accumulated in the drain pipe impeding the normal water flow and consequently freezing the drain.

Hello Martha, thank you for writing in. The Drain Pipe is PS2344342. You need to remove this tube and clear it out, and then blow compressed air up through the tube that goes through the back wall. We hope the video from a similar drain tube. Good luck with your repair.
We have cleared the drain twice. There is still water accumulating under the drawer. The defrost heater is heating in with a manual defrost mode. Could the problem be a faulty defrost thermostat?
For model number PFSS6PKXASS
Hi Martha, Thank you for reaching out. To know for sure you will need to test the Thermostat (Manufacturer Part Number WR02X12591). The best way to do this is to remove the thermostat from the refrigerator so you can control the temperature of the sensor. You can let the sensor warm up to room temperature. With the sensor warmed up to room temperature the sensor should read approximately 6.2K Ohms at 68°F. With the thermistor submerged is a glass full of ice water, the sensor should be very close to 32°F which should read approximately 16.3K Ohms. If the values that you are getting are far off from these readings, then the sensor is bad and should be replaced. We hope this helps!
