F1 code - gas over would not heat.
Repair tech checked oven and said the control panel was bad and needed to be replaced. The new control panel would cost over $450.00! I found that the oven sensor was bad and replaced it for $30.00. The old oven sensor had failed following a self cleaning cycle. I found that the wires coming out of it were burnt.

Replacing the oven sensor was very easy. I removed the back panels 6 screws to gain access to the sensor's connection. I then removed the 2 screw that hold the sensor in place inside the oven and pulled the old sensor out through the oven. I reversed this process to place the new sensor in the oven.

Stove wasn't reaching the set temperture.
First I removed the two screws that hold the element in place. I then pulled the element out about 3 inches and disconnected the two wires. Replaced the element and attached the wires. Making sure I pushed the wires back through the hole far enough so the wires wouldn't touch the back of the stove. I then replaced the sensor by removing the two screws and pulling the wire through the hole so I could disconnect them. I reconnected the new sensor and made sure I pushed the wires back through the hole far enough away from the back of the stove. Replaced the screws and was all set to start the stove. I started the stove and it took about 10 min. to reach the set temperture. The stove worked great.

Oven would not heat- Beeped nonstop and flashed F3
First I removed two screws that hold the oven sensor in place. I then removed the screws that held the panel on the back of the oven. I simply unclipped the plastic adaptor and replaced the old sensor with the new one. I screwed the sensor back in and put the back panel on. turned the power back on to the oven and hit the bake button. Voila!! The oven turned on and now it works like new!!!

Oven would not light -- gas smell
Remove racks and pull out stove from wall. Remove back cover from stove. Unscrew and unplug sensor. Rethread new sensor wire through hole and plug in new sensor and rescrew plate that holds in place.

We had complications because of how the stove was installed, which delayed the "fix" time considerably.

Also installed ignitor. It was determined that both were bad. Gas would come on but not light. When oven would light, it would not re-light periodically to keep the temperature up, causing gas smell. This added time to repair of an additional 1 hour, and required removal of bottom drawer.

Kept getting F3 errors
My oven stopped working and the display read F3 error. I looked up the code and found that it was probably the thermostat sensor. I ordered the part from partselect.com and when it arrived I went to install it but I ran into a somewhat scary issue. I found that I had to pull my oven out of the wall in order to replace the sensor.

After a minor nervous breakdown, I decided to go for it and found that it was much easier than I had imagined. Changing the sensor involves taking out the two screws that hold the sensor in place (inside of the oven), pulling it out to the point you can reach the connector, plugging in the new sensor and screwing it back in place. However, if you have an oven like my model, you have to pull out the whole oven from the wall in order to reach the plug on the sensor. This sounds like a lot of trouble but for me it was very easy. The oven is held in place with screws around the front side. Most are easily accessed and you don't have to take out any critical/complicated pieces of the oven. My screw gun made short issue of the problem and I found that the oven was out of the wall within minutes. I could then easily unscrew a small back cover, change the sensor and then screw the oven back into the wall. Being very careful, the whole operation took about 20 minutes. I recommend that you get help from a friend just because the oven is bulky. It is not heavy, an average sized male can handle the weight but it’s easier with a friend. Also, be careful that the gas hose which feeds the oven is long enough (and not tangled) for you to move the oven out of its space. Obviously, be careful about gas leaks.

oven temperature not correct
Pulled the oven away from wall to access rear of oven. Disconnect electric plug from duplex outlet, turn off gas supply ball valve. Removed two screws that retain sensor on inside of oven. Disconnected two prong sensor connector at rear of oven. Tied a length of string to sensor connector wires. Pulled old sensor out through front of oven. Use the string to tie onto new sensor connector wires and pull new sensor into place from rear of oven. Retain sensor with two screws. At back of oven, used connector jumper supplied with part package to make connection to existing connector.

Overshooting temperatures upon changing settings
Look in the oven. On the upper left corner is the sensor. Remove two screws. Gently pull the wire and connector through the hole and insulation. Disconnect old sensor, replace new. Gently push the connection through, then finish pulling through from behind the stove. Replace the screws inside the oven. Done.

Broken Handle, Oven temperature problem
I removed the door by opening partially and pulling upward. It was a little heavy and you should make sure you have somewhere to put it. I removed screws and reinstalled the handle into the new door trim that had broken. It gave a great opportunity to clean the oven.
I then unscrewed the temp sensor from inside the oven and removed the back panel of the range to unplug the wires. I plugged in the new wires and tightened the screws.
The light bulb was easy. I pulled off the cover and unscrewed the old and screwed in the new. It was a lot of screwing and unscrewing but 3 easy tasks all the same.

Hello Joe, Thank you for your inquiry. You may have an issue with your control board, you can test it with a multimeter to see if it has continuity. If you are unfamiliar with how a multimeter functions, there are YouTube videos available to assist you. The other issue could be with the wiring between the sensor and the main control board as that is what the F5 error usually indicates. Hope this helps!

The problem i have is that the oven burner will not ignite at temperatures below 425 degrees and will only stay lit for about 10 seconds. At that point, both the igniter also shuts down. What part do i need?
For model number CRG9700AAW
PartSelect logo
Hi Anthony, Thank you for your question. If the oven is not heating correctly, then the issue is likely with the oven sensor and you will need to check it with a multimeter. When testing the sensor with a multimeter, the sensor should be tested at room temperature. You will need to measure the resistance between the two prongs at the end of the sensor connector. Replace the oven sensor if the reading is less than 900 Ohms or more than 1200 Ohms. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

I had suspected the temp sensor, untill after i replace the pressures regulater. Than i notice the f3 error was coming on immediately and the igniter wasn't glowing
For model number CWG3600AAB

Hi Charles, Thank you for your inquiry. The F3 error code is letting you know that the oven temperature sensor has either failed or shorted out. You will need to test the sensor with a multimeter to check the continuity of the part and you will also need to check sensor to see if the wiring is frayed or pinched. You will also need to check for connector damage. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Received an F3 message, replaced the temperature sensor but still getting F3. The wire coming through back of oven is old and the fitting is cracked - can i replace just the fitting or do i need to pull the entire oven out and replace the wire from the sensor to the control panel? Also - not sure if it matters but i replaced the igniter two weeks ago, working fine now. Also replaced the vertical door seal's but missing horizontal door seal.
For model number CWG3600AAB

Hi Mike, Thank you for you question. Yes, it is likely that you will have to replace the whole wiring harness if it is damaged. You should be able to test your harness to see if that is the part giving you trouble with a multi meter. If this part does not fix the issue however, it may be your electronic control board that is the issue. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

I received f-3 after unit was preheating after 10 minutes. Called in for service was told it was the control board which was not available. I was able to obtain one. I installed it but did not secure the ribbon from the control panel; also I think I connected the yellow and black wires incorrectly, nonetheless same symptoms. Oven came on but after preheating f-3-1 came on. Called for service again was told it was the sensor. I replaced the sensor. I installed the yellow and black wire correctly and secured the ribbon. Now as soon as I put on the power f-3-1 comes on immediately. The oven does not start up, I only get error f-3-1. Is it a defective sensor, defective board or do I need to replace the igniter?
For model number JGS8850ADB
PartSelect logo
Hello Ron, Thanks for your question. The F3-1 code implies a shorted sensor. The wiring to the sensor may be incorrect or faulty, or the sensor itself may be defective. Consider testing the sensor with a multimeter for electrical continuity, and replace it if it shows no continuity. Otherwise, check the wiring and see if it is connected correctly to the sensor. I hope this helps.

Hello Eileen, thank you for your question. The "SABBATH" code is an indication that your range has been placed in "Sabbath Mode". This is set to disable the range for up to 72 hours for those religions that honor the sabbath. It can't be defeated by unplugging the range or turning off the breaker. You will either have to wait the 72 hour period, or locate the section in your owner's manual that explains how to turn that mode off. It should be listed in the "Operating Instructions" section of your manual. I hope this helps!

This issue has been happening for a couple of months. I set the oven temp to 400 or whatever and it stops heating at 100. I cancel it and try again and after several tries it eventually starts heating correctly. What part would you recommend replacing? Thanks dennis
For model number GW397LXUQ06
PartSelect logo
Hello Dennis, Thank you for the question. I suggest testing the Oven Sensor. Testing the temperature sensor probe on your oven is easy. With the sensor at room temperature, measure the resistance between the two prongs at the end of the sensor connector. The resistance of the sensor should read approximately 1000 – 1090 ohms at room temperature. Hope this helps!

For model number JGS8850BDS

Hello William, thank you for your question. It sounds like the electronic control board has failed. The electronic board controls the oven functions, so if neither of the oven elements work, that is usually a good indicator that the board has failed. I would suggest replacing part number Electronic Control WP8507P228-60. Good luck with your repair!
