No spark at top burners, first one then eventually all 4.
Most of the repair time was spent researching the problem online, locating the spark module inside the range, and selecting the part online. Installation was easy. Key troubleshooting info for me was, if there is no clicking, the spark unit is probably worn-out. I traced the ignition wires from the burners down to the spark module, located inside a 2x3" metal housing next to the bottom drawer. I removed 2 screws and out it came. The replacement unit pictured on the PartSelect site was not identical to the original but had the same number of contacts. I ordered the part and it arrived a few days later. The old connectors slipped easily onto the new pins, and I screwed the new unit into the range using the new metal housing. All 4 burners now spark up quickly, and we saved at least $100 on a service call. It was well worth the time and effort -- thanks!

Burners would not ignite
Pulled the stove out from the wall. Removed the left side of the stove. Removed the wires from the old igniter. Modified four of the wire ends with the proper size spade connectors (supplied with the new part). Reinstalled the wires onto the new part. Tested the burners. Reinstalled the stove side. Moved the stove back into position.

spark ignition in stove failed to turn on burnes.
Remove burnes and top oven glass, , identified cables for each burner. Unpluged cables, remove old ignition module, drill a hole to install new module. Place module in location. I had to figure out what cables were for the right burner as after placing in the same location as old ignition Module it turned out that they were not identical. I did have to cut old plugs to be able to install cables to new ignition module. If the new part came with and adapter to old cables, as old plugs have small connectors, the new one comes with larger plugs. That would have made it esier.

Igniters were flaky on 2 burners and almost dead on 2
The part didn't come with installation instructions specific to any stove/oven so I went by a previous testimony on this website and pulled out the stove, and started to remove the side panel to get access. Well turns out I could have done the whole repair in place because on my Maytag the igniter source is accessible by removing the utility drawer and it's mounted on a small galvanized steel panel at the left side which hides the part directly. The existing spade connectors were the right size for me but I did have to crimp them tighter (which was perhaps part of the initial problem). After installation, the spark is much more powerful and all burners lit first couple "clicks".

Electronic spark ignition would not ignite intermittently.
The spark moule was accessed by removing the bottom storage draw and removing the 2 phillips screws that held the spark module bracket to the frame of the stove located on the rear right side of the draw opening. The new module did come with new spade connectors that reqires cutting the existing connectors off and splicing and crimping the new connectors to the wires for each of the four burners depending on the model stove. Also I had to use zip ties to secure the new module to the original mounting hardware since the replacement module is not a direct fit. Each of the four burners now instantaneoulsly ignite when turned on. I will buy from Partselect.com in the future. Thank you.

Gas range and top oven does not light up
I pulled out the gas range, unplugged the unit from the outlet. Unscrewed about two panels, one is the black cardboard panel located on top, then the aluminum main panel.

Located the spark module, unscrewed the unit from resting plate. Did not change the plate, although the new unit came with a new one, but it doesn't fit. So I just rested the new one on the old plate.

Pulled each wire slowly out and inserted it onto the new spark module.

Screwed in all the panels back and returned the stove to its proper place.

The range now works as well as the oven, but my broiler still does not light up.

Oven and burners wouldn't light
Easy repair. I removed the module housing at the back of the stove (two screws) and slipped the wires off the old spark module (I had to use pliers to gently pull one or two wires off--it's an old stove). The existing wires slipped right on the new module. I did have to use the mounting adapter that came with the kit, but that was the fiddliest part of the whole repair. It took me longer to move the stove out and back than it did to do the repair.

Burners would no longer work without using a match or lighter
I replaced all the burner switches as well as the spark ignition module. It was necessary to solder small terminals to use the existing wires with the new spark ignition module. Otherwise, this was a pretty straightforward job. My wife, an excellent cook, is now even happier than usual.

Hello, i have a Maytag 4 burner gas cooktop. One of the burners is not igniting. I am not sure which part i need to replace. I found two on your site. Could you help me figure out which one i need. The parts are as follows:Spark ignition module kit partselect# ps2003170 / manufacturers# 12001596 or the burner spark ignition switch partselect# ps11744485 / manufacturers# wp7403p190 60 thank you
For model number CSG7000AAB
PartSelect logo
Hello Douglas, thank you for your inquiry! When one of your burners is not igniting, it is one of 2 reasons. The first being the spark module. If the burner is produce weak to no spark, or if the burner sparks intermittently, the spark module is most likely defective and needs to be replaced. The second reason being the spark ignition switch. When the burner is turned on, the spark ignition switch sends voltage to the spark module to produce a spark. If the spark ignition switch isn't working properly, it won't send voltage to the spark module, and the burner won't be able to produce a spark. If one of your burners isn't sparking, check to see if the other burners are sparking properly. If the other burners are sparking properly, the spark ignition switch is likely defective and needs to be replaced. I hope this information helps diagnose the problem to get the correct replacement part!

Two of my burners make a clicking sound. Very annoying.
For model number MGC8636WS
PartSelect logo
Hi Suzanne, Thank you for your question. A normally functioning igniter will typically click up to three times before it sparks. But, every now and then you may run into instances where the ignitor continues to click or tick even after the burner is lit, or the burner never lights at all. A clicking ignitor typically is not dangerous and may continue to click if the gas is shut off. One of the most common sources of this issue is that the Burner Cap is out of place. Make sure the cooktop is completely cooled and remove the Burner Grate to access the cap. Try removing the cap and center it on the base. If the burner cap is askew, it can prevent the burner from lighting. If that doesn’t work, check for moisture. If you recently had a pot boil over on burner, a food or grease spill, or cleaned the cooktop, there may still be moisture present even if it looks dry. Remove the burner cap and give the burner time to air dry. To speed up the process, make sure all the burners are off and towel off the top of the range. You can then either use a fan aimed at the range top or set your oven to 350° and leave it on for around 30 minutes to speed up dry time. If you see that there is debris stuck in the holes in the burner, that could also potentially be the culprit. You can use a metal pin or paper clip to clear the debris out of the grooves. Never use items such as toothpicks to do this, they may break off and get lodged inside. If you get through all of these tips and still have the clicking problem, it may be the Spark Module, Spark Ignition Switch or the Ignitor itself. You can find replacements for your model stove for purchase on our website. If you feel comfortable, this is a repair you can do yourself. But, if you’re ever unsure don’t hesitate to contact a technician and consult your owner’s manual. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

I have a weak spark sometimes the burner lights sometimes not.If you think it's the spark module how do i go about replacing it. Can i meter the leads at the burner and should it be the same at all the burners
For model number #8261RV glass cooktop
PartSelect logo
Hi John, Thank you for your question. Before you begin any repair please unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet or turn the circuit breaker off. To begin the repair, first start at the back of the range, so you can remove the access panel. For this repair you will need to use a quarter inch nut driver to remove the screws. With the screws removed, carefully lift the access panel out of its location. Disconnect the wiring harness that connects the range to the power cord and set it aside. You now have access to the spark module. There are wires that are attached to the module that you will need to disconnect. The spark module has numbers marked on it such as 1, 2, 3 and 4 for example that correspond the to wires that connect to the spark module that will allow you to connect them correctly to the new spark module. There are also 2 wires on the bottom of the module labelled L and N. You will need a pair of needle nose pliers to remove the wires from the spark module. With the wires disconnected, you can now remove the spark module from the stove. There are 2 locking tabs on the spark module. Press down on the top of the module to release the top tab. Take the top tab out of the range and then you can pull the bottom tab out of its position. Before, installing the new spark module onto the range, you will need to connect the wires first. Match the wires to the corresponding numbers and letters on the module. With the wires connected, line the module up to the stove and connect the bottom tab first and then snap the upper tab into place. Before reinstalling the access panel, reconnect the wiring harness that connects the range to the power cord. Rotate the access panel, so it is in position and secure it with the screws. Restore power to the range and everything should now work for you. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

How to replace spark ignition module on a built -in glass top cooktop with sealed burners
For model number # 8261
PartSelect logo
Hi John, Thank you for your question. Before you begin any repair please unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet or turn the circuit breaker off. First, remove all the cooktop grates and then lift the gas burner caps off the burner heads. Remove the screws securing the burner heads in place and then remove the burner heads. Remove the burner caps. Remove the nuts that hold the burner heads Remove the burner heads. Pull the control knobs off of the burner control valves. Remove the screws that secure the main top to the top of the burner orifice holders. Lift the main top off of the cooktop and set it aside. Take note of how the wires are attached to the existing spark module, so you can connect them correctly to the new spark module. Disconnect all the wires attached to the spark module. Release the locking tab and then remove the spark module from the mounting bracket. Disconnect the wires from the spark module. Position the new spark module on the mounting bracket and push it into place. The locking tab should snap into place when the module is in the right position. Connect the wires to the new spark module. Position the main top on top of the burner orifice holders and insert and tighten the screws that secure the main top to the orifice holders. Push the control knobs on the burner control valves. Position the burner heads in the correct locations, screw them into place and tighten the screws firmly. Cover the burner heads with the burner caps in the correct locations. Set the grates into place on the cooktop. You can now restore power to the cooktop, and it should now work for you. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
