My refrigerator began to overheat and the everything was thawing!!
My refrigerator began to overheat and the everything was thawing!! The condenser fan motor had seized and I thought this is something even I can replace.
I did a Google search on the refrigerator model number. The link to your site looked promising and I clicked on it. I was taken to your web page for my refrigerator and I clicked on the schematic for the condenser assembly.
The schematic had the parts I needed labeled clearly so this layman could be sure to get the right ones.
I ordered the parts at 12:45PM Monday and selected overnight shipping. The parts arrived at 8:35AM Tuesday (Thank you FedEx). I installed the parts and my refrigerator is up and running again.
To get to the condenser fan motor I took off the back panel on the fridge that covers the condenser, fan and coil. The fan/motor assembly is attached to a bracket I removed with two screws. Pulled the bracket assembly out of the back of the fridge, removed the fan blade and then the motor, and put the new motor on the bracket and stuck the new fan blade on the motor spindle. The trickiest part was getting the complete assembly back in. Just went slowly and took my time. Reconnected the wires, no problems. I took pictures of everything that I disassembled BEFORE I disassembled it in case I wasn't sure how something went back in but this job was so simple I didn't need the pictures.
I’m not sure how I could improve on this except maybe you could ship a refrigerator technician, too, to do the install.
Thank you PartSelect everything worked out better than I could have hoped and I saved $220.00 compared to what a repair service was quoting.
took one screw that held the whole fan housing on, its a tight fit to try and pull it out cause of the copper lines in the back so I just turned it enough to where I could get to the 2 screws on the fan bracket, took the old fan and the rubber grommets out and replaced them! Put everything back together and works like new! Nice and quite! Plus I saved about $200-300 if a tech. would have came and fixed it!
1. Unplugged the fridge. 2. unplugged the fan connection and removed the wire holding clip. 3. removed the 2 screws holding the motor bracket in place and removed the bracket. 4. Pulled gently back on the motor so that the fan pressed against the front bracket until the fan slid off the motor shaft. 5. Pulled the rubber motor mounts off of the old motor and placed on the new motor. 6. Slide the new motor in place pressed the fan all the way onto the shaft. 7. Placed the rear motor bracket in place and started the screws by hand making sure the ground wire was attached to the furthest away screw. 8. tightened the screws down. 9. Pushed in the wire holding clip into the clip hole. 10. Plugged back in the fan. 11. Plugged back in the fridge. 12. Turned down the temp on the fridge to kick on the compressor and checked to assure the fan was operating and then set the temp back to normal. 13. Vacuumed the condenser coils to get them all clean and ready for more years of service!

The hard part was cleaning the dust around the coil and fan area. Its plug and play right after that. Two nuts on the fan housing and a wire harness snaps on and off. Bam! 1,2,3 Up and running. . Like new. . . Thank you ps

bad condenser fan motor, noisy

Ref was not freezing correctly
took back cover off. swept the rear with a vacuum cleaner to get rid of dust.found that the fan would not turn. ordered part with your really great ordering technique. Part was suppose to be here in 3-5 days and was here the next day!!!.Removed 2 bolts pulled out the plastic clip that held the wire on. and worked the fan blade off shaft. removed and replaced in the same order as taking simple Thanks

Noise from Condensor Fan and Fan Motor.
I watched the video provided by PartSelect twice, then proceeded with the removal and installation. It took me 40 minutes from start to finish. Piece of Cake. Everything works fine now.
the refrigerator did warm up arround the doors until the freezer side stops work.
After I have checked oline , I ordered the parts wich Igot a day early and fix it , it took me about 15 minutes and I saved at 250.00 dollars . Thanks for all the help.
Followed the video you posted on your website and it went seamlessly. Removed the full unit and after replacing the motor - placed back in slot, secured and ran perfectly. Hot center bar no longer a problem

Hi Deborah, Thank you for the question. It would depend on the area of the appliance the noise is coming from. If it is coming from the back of the freezer it would be the Evaporator Fan Motor, PartSelect Number PS1766252. If it is coming from the bottom of the appliance, it would be the Condenser Fan Motor, PartSelect Number PS1766247. I suggest listening for the noise to see what section it is coming from. You can also try cleaning and checking the fan blades on the motors to ensure they are operating properly as well. Hope this helps!

In between doors and left outside freezer gets hot. Changed condenser fan, cleaned out all dirt inside and out side condenser. Still hot after i plugged it for 8 hrs. What is the next step, evaporator fan or temp sensors in the freezer part? Thanks in advance.

Should the condenser cooling fan stay on all the time? My unit will run really cold for a while, well below what I set it at. Then it will start getting warmer and warmer to where it’s not functioning right. I’ve checked three of the thermistors, the condenser fan and the other fan and all our operational. The evaporator fan is new and came with a thermistor.

Hello Charlie, Thank you for the question. The Condenser Fan will run while the Compressor is running to keep it cool and air flow over the coils. We suggest testing the Temperature Sensor. If the Sensor is good, you may have to replace the Interface Control Board, PartSelect Number PS966899. We hope this helps!

Hello Richard, Thank you for your inquiry. No the fridge should keep working if the condenser fan is frozen. However, if it is not working, it can lead to other issues. If your fridge will not start, we would recommend checking the following parts to fix your issue: run capacitor, start relay/overload, defrost thermostat, defrost heater, temperature sensor, evaporator fan motor and the electronic control board. Not sure if this is the part I need. I replaced the sensor in fridge that is near the freezer because fridge side wasnt cooling. When finished with repair I turned breaker on and now nothing is running on either side. Only thing on is the light inside fridge. Checked the compressor starter relay and it didnt rattle. Do you have any suggestions?
