Timer knob cracked twice. Found out the timer switch was bad.
Removed the 3 knobs. They just pull off. Removed 6 screws on the back side of the control panel. The front (plastic panel then just separates from the back). Then look at how the switch is mounted on the plastic panel. There should be 2 small pieces of plastic that holds it in. Carefully twist the switch in the appropriate direction so it comes free. Before you remove any wires from the old switch remember what colors go where ! I used needle nose pliers to remove the connections from the switch. Make the new connections, mount the switch, put the screws back in the panel. BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING. UNPLUG THE ELECTRICAL CORD !!!

START knob and plastic underneath broken
It was so incredibly simple! The site made it foolproof to find the right parts - and the actual replacement job itself was easier than we ever could have imagined. Background: I love to do laundry - I mean A LOT! So - I use the washer and dryer every night to wash the familie's clothing and blankets and towels. After heavy use - the outer knob stripped out. We threw it away and were using pliers to turn the small plastic knob underneath. After a few months - that plastic wore down and we could not turn it on at all!

replace timer and knob
removed back panel, exchanged wires on old timer to new. Do this one at a time as there is no color chart to follow. Timer clips back in. Used a little screw to lock it in. Not sure if this was on the original but there was a place for it. Re-attached back panel and placed knob on shaft.
Overall saved a bundle as a service visit is $175.

Timer knob and shaft broke
Timer knob broke (again) so we just used pair of pliers to set time for drying. This caused timer's plastic knob shaft to broke very quickly, so whole timer had to be replaced. I didn't have ANY experience with this but it was very simple. I disconnected power cable from the outlet. Using screwdriver removed back panel, then using pliers disconnected all wires from the old timer and connected them back to the new one. And that's it, dryer working like new.

Plastic knob attached to motor snapped off.
Ordered part from the make and model number on the inside of dryer. Unplugged and Took screws off the back panel. Unplugged all color of wires while remembering where they went. Put in new motor and put wire plugs back in place, then screwed back plate cover back in place. NOTE: It's like changing a fuse in your car. It was really easy!

When the cycle finishes my dryer will not automatically turn off anymore. Is there a problem with my timer knob or something? Never had this happen before!
PartSelect logo
Hello Marge, if the timer motor has power and the timer is still not turning off, you may need to replace the timer on your dryer WE4M353. This can be tested using a multi-meter tool. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

How do I know if I should replace the knob or the whole timer assembly. My wife said last time she used the dryer when she turned the timer it felt “weird” and now the machine is not starting. I read that usually it is bc of a faulty timer or timer knob but who can I determine which it is?
PartSelect logo
Hi Raymond, this problem could be caused by the knob or the timer on your dryer. I would start with the knob. Pull it off the shaft and check it for visible damage. If the knob is not the problem then you will need to inspect your dryer timer. I hope this helps.

The timer knob has no tension in it. I cannot make a timing selection as the dial spins freely, therefore the dryer will not work.
For model number HTDX100GM8WW
PartSelect logo
Hi Greg, Thank you for the question. If you can remove the knob and turn the shaft the knob fits onto and have it operate normally, you will need to replace the knob. If the shaft turns freely as well then the timer switch needs to be replaced, Part Number: PS9491767. Hope this helps!

When on timed drying always stops at 40mins which is when the knob arrow is pointing straight down, I have tried replacing the timer itself twice with the same result. So either I wired it wrong, have the wrong timer. Does each knob have its own orientation? Anything you can think of?
For model number DLSR483GG1WW
PartSelect logo
Hello Ken, Thank you for the question. A dryer that shuts off mid cycle might mean that you have a defective motor. A defective motor will run a lot hotter than usual and will cause it to overload. When the motor becomes too hot it will shut off to cool down which would cause your dryer to shut off. I suggest testing the motor. Hope this helps!
