Easy Repair
When my dryer, an Amana, after ten years stopped working, I tried to analyze what the cause could be. I had a choice to buy a new starter switch or buy tools in the hundreds of dollars to detect the problem. I took a chance to buy the switch. I installed the switch, which was easy according to the utube instructions. It did not work. As I am not an electrician decided to give away the old dryer with a new switch and now somebody who has more knowledge than myself and who can find out the problem and fix it has a new dryer. I lost the small investment but gained a lot of insight into how a dryer works. The instructions I received where easy to follow, the trick is to find the cause of the breakdown,

Facile à remplacer, pour moi qui n'y connaissait rien en réparation de gros électroménager. J'ai suivi les instructions pas à pas et tout fonctionnement très bien maintenant.

My dryer will not turn on. It did not make any sounds or smell on the last load. Could this be a starter switch issue?
For model number Nef4655ew0
Hi Angela, Thank you for the question. I suggest replacing or testing with a multi-meter, the Push To Start switch. If there is no Continuity on the switch it will need to be replaced.Hope this helps!

Dryer will only work if you hold in the start button. Is the switch bad.
For model number NED4600YQ1
Hello Debi, Thank you for your inquiry. To determine if the start switch is defective, attempt to start the dryer. If the dryer hums but does not start, the start switch is not at fault. You can check the switch with a multimeter to see if it is working. We would recommend you check the following parts as well, the door switch, both the internal bias and hi-limit thermostat, the thermal cut off kit, the thermal fuse and the main control board. If you are unfamiliar with how a multimeter functions, there are YouTube videos available to assist you. Hope this helps!

Dryer will only start if you hold button in. Is the switch bad.
Hello Debi, Thank you for your inquiry. To determine if the start switch is defective, attempt to start the dryer. If the dryer hums but does not start, the start switch is not at fault. Use a multimeter to test the start switch for continuity. If the switch does not have continuity, replace it. I would also check the thermal fuse, the thermostats, the thermal cut off kit, the door switch, the control panel and the main control board. Good luck with your repair!
