Latch handle broke due to Latch Assembly worn
This repair was fairly quick and easy. The parts are much better made than the stock Maytag. The parts from PartSelect came lightening quick! Never used before, always Sears, but will ALWAYS use from now on!
So, first, make super sure all power is disconnected. Then take the torx and remove all the screws on interior front cover - the top center two actually hold the latch assembly and handle. Once all are removed, I propped the cover up and left all wiring connected. I removed the switches connected to the old latch assembly and just removed the new switches from the new latch assembly, and popped the old ones onto the new latch assembly. Now have new switches if the old ones ever wear out.
The latch assembly just pops out from what should be two sets of plastic peg clips molded into the black control panel back. Mine were busted on one side. So I molded some jb weld on the remaining sides to the pegs on the latch assembly and then screwed all back together (the controls on the panel are fine, not spending $85 if I can get away with sticking it...and the upper center two screws do the most of the holding anyway).
Works great again. I really am ultra impressed with the HUGE difference in reinforcement that the new handle has. If Maytag would have built it that way to begin with, should not have broke. Anyway, if you are here just checking to see if you can do and how much parts are, place the order - it is no problem and cheap, and will probably never give up and break again.

Broken latch assembly and handle, cracked control panel.
I ordered a new control panel, latch assembly and latch handle. The panel and latch assembly (which includes two contact switches) came quickly, the cheapest part (latch handle) was on back order. I was surpised when the handle came because it included a new latch assembly with the handle already attached, maybe an improved design?
I shut off elecricity to the dishwasher, opened the door and removed the 11 torx T-20 screws. The inner panel lifts up and I then unplugged the electrical connector at the soap dispenser, unplugged the 2 connectors at the latch assembly contact switches (remember which is which). The inner panel can be removed and set aside. These connectors are tight coming off, so use care and maybe some Channel locks to wiggle them loose. If your changing the control panel, remove the cover over the circuit board, a ribbon connector goes into this and has a sliding collar, slide up to loosen and remove the ribbon, fully insert the new ribbon and slide back down to tighten.
I used a 1/4 inch nut driver to remove the screws holding the panel. The latch assembly with handle attached snaps into brackets on the panel, re-install the control panel, routing the ribbon cable carefully. Replace the cover over the electronics, plug all the elecrical connections back in, replace the torx screws. Turn on the power. The new parts seem much better than the original.

Broken door latch
The repair stories on PartSelect.com told me exactly what to do.

First, I checked the inside of the door and confirmed that the inside panel of the door was held in place with about 10 torx screws.

Second, I went out and bought a set of torx screwdrivers.

Third, I TURNED OFF THE POWER TO THE DISHWASHER AT THE BREAKER BOX! Safety first!

Fourth, I removed the screws and gently lifted the inside panel of the door, and then gently lifted the broken door latch assembly out of its slot. (There were no more screws to remove, because the latch assembly is held in place by two of the door screws.) Two sets of wires, one white and the other black, were connected to the latch assembly by plug-in connectors.

Fifth, I unplugged the wires from the broken latch assembly. The clips in the plug were very tight, so I used a dishtowel to hold onto the latch assembly. I found that gave me a better grip.

Sixth, I plugged the wires onto the new latch assembly, and then slipped the latch assembly back into the slot.

Seventh, I replaced the inside door panel, and replaced in the 10 torx screws.

Finally, I turned on the power at the breaker box, closed the door, and turned on the dishwasher. It ran perfectly!

I would like tyo add that I had ordered an unnecessary part by mistake. I called the return number, and the person who answered was extremely helpful. She gave me the return authorization number and I put the part in the mail. Ten days later, I received an email from PartSelect.com confirming that the part had arrived and that my account had been credited.

The entire process was easy and pleasant. Anybody can do this! Just make sure to shut off the power at the breaker box before you start on the job.

The latch was broken
The web site was great in finding the part that was required. Once the parts was received ( it took four days to et the part ths was very fast) it took only 30 mins. to complete the repair. I had to remove all the screw on the door, lift up the inside door cover and remove the handle latch assembly. I removed the two mico switches from the old handle and installed them into the new handle. I replaced the new assembly and replaced the inside door cover and replaced the screws. This was a very easy repair.
I had called a local repair shop to see what it would cost to repait the dishwasher. They told me that it would cost $60.00 to come to the house to see what was wrong with the unit. Next they would charge $75 per hour (minimum of $75 if it was less than one hour of repair time) for the repair plus the parts. THis repair cost me less than $30 plus 30 minutes of my time. Great savings

Broken handle/latch Dishwasher was very difficult to open.
The first thing I did was read the all of repair stories that others had submitted. Then I set the timer and chucked up the Torx bit in my electric drill/screwdriver. There are 10 Torx screws on the inside of the dishwasher door and they came out very quickly. The top two screws hold the latch in place. I lifted the inside stainless steel cover to get acces to the latch. There was enough slack in the wire that I was able to remove the latch from where it was and extend it above the door. This let me lay the stainless steel liner back onto the inside of the door without removing or disconnecting the soap dispenser. Thus exposed, disconnecting the connectors from the old latch and reconnecting them to the microswitches on the new latch was a breeze. Once connected, I reinstalled the latch assembly, repositioned the liner correctly and replaced the ten screws. The entire job, including putting my tools away and cleaning up took eight minutes. I did it on my lunch break. The eight minutes included pulling the circuit breaker and reconnecting it (very important, that step). The new latch/handle assembly completely fixed the problem.

door would not stay shut
-Remove all torx screws on door (2 min).
-unplug switch's (10 min) I used a small curved awl for this, there is a small nub that goes into the connector that needs popped off to release. I got the first switch in a few seconds, the second took several minutes.
-plugged in new switches and replaced torx screws (2 min.)
-another job well done.
The pictures on the web site were not accurate. I thought i needed the Latch assembly and the latch assymbly (Bisque)M. The Latch assembly Bisque had everything that the Latch assembly had plus the handle (and it cost like $8 less. So I had to return the Latch Assembly. Hopefully I made that clear I saw similar info when I was making my purchase but it was not clear so I ended up ordering more than what I needed.

Latch on dishwasher had broken.
After purchasing some torx head screwdrivers, it was easy to remove the front door of the diswasher and see that a few tiny plastic pieces had broken on the latch, rendering the entire dishwasher unusable. I found all of the broken pieces, and it took about 5 minutes to order replacement parts from partselect.com. What a great website! The schematics made it simple to identify exactly the parts I needed.
The parts arrived promptly, fit perfectly, and installation was a breeze.

Door leaking, handle broken
Door gasket was easy out and in using the white mark on the seal to line it up with the center. The latch came with the handle so I returned the extra latch assembly that I ordered. Super easy to install. Removed door screws, carefully lifted and set aside inside of door leaving wires attached. Reved wire from latchtch switches, attached wires to new latch, put in postion and reassembled.

Door Latch was Broken and also plastic in center of control panel
Removed all screws from the perimeter of the inner door panel

Removed (2) connectors from inner door panel and set it aside. Note this was difficult, but was finally accomplished by using a pliers and pulling on the connector body.
Instructions should be included on how to remove these to prevent damage.

Removed circuit board plastic cover.
Unplugged Flex circuit conductor strip from circuit board.
Removed control panel and door latch asm from outer door panel.
Replaced parts in reverse order.

Problem: The flexible conductor strip attached to the control panel had a sticky red adhesive at the tip extending about 3 inches and was stuck onto the panel. Was this for shipping reasons?
Anyway, the sticky goo would not let the strip plug into the circuit board or make a reliable connection.

The Dishwasher worked for one day then would not operate the next day.
I had to disassemble the panels again and clean the glue off with Goo Gone. I was taking a chance because I didn't know if the Goo Gone would affect the carbon conductors on the strip.
Anyway, it now is working again.

Suggestion: You need to include instructions about attaching the flat conductor strip to the circuit board.
Also, It does not seem proper to put the glue over the connector end of the strip. Even though the glue was on the side of the strip opposite the actual carbon conductors it got all over everything just due to handling and had to be cleaned off.
I would suggest tape or something more easily removed or apply the glue away from the tip a couple of inches or more.

How to remove old broken latch
PartSelect logo
Hi Ken, First and foremost, make sure to unplug your appliance and turn off the water supply. You will have to remove all of the screws holding the inner door panel to the outer door panel. You should then be able to pop off your old latch. If the wire harness is hard to remove from your latch you can use a flat head screw driver to help push the plugs off of the old terminals. Make sure to replace your handle as this part does not come with your handle already attached. After you have done that, just follow these steps in reverse to put your appliance back together. I hope that helps!
