The water supply line to the ice maker kept popping off after I replaced the water filter because an "ice plug" had formed in the fill tube, unbeknownst to me.
1. Turn your water OFF and pull the refrigerator out from the wall so you can access the back.
2. Use pliers to remove tubing clamp.
3. Remove old water fill tube.
4. I used a putty knife to gently pry out the old fill tube from the back of the refrigerator. Once the fill tube pulls out about 1/4 to 1/2", then you can gently pull the remainder of the tube out by hand. Once I removed my "old" fill tube, that is when I saw the "ice plug" that was causing pressure in the water supply line and caused my water line to pop off.
5. Install new fill tube. The end that goes in first needs to go through a small "ring" inside the freezer (this "ring" is not encountered until the fill tube only has about one more inch to be inserted into the back of the refigerator. I could barely see this "ring" if I opened the freezer drawer and stuck my head in as far as I could. I had to gently rotate the new fill tube until it cleared the "ring". You will feel some resistance until it lines up properly.
6. Snugly push in the part that stays on the outside of the refrigerator until it looks like it is sealed.
7. Gently push up the water fill tube where it belongs in the new part and replace the tubing clamp.
8. Turn your water on and make sure there are no leaks (I left my refrigerator out for about an hour).
9. Push your refrigerator back in place.

The fill tube was freezing up after about 60 days of use.
Pulled the unit from the wall, and unplugged, and turned off the water. Removed the back plate at the bottom of the refrigerator to gain access to the water inlet valve. Disconnected three tubes and two electrical connections and reconnected to the new inlet valve. Reassembled the back plate. Then turned everything back on and checked for leaks. Re-Installed the back plate. This was a fairly easy repair. The only problem I had was getting the water lines off the old valve. It was a bit of a struggle for me. I did watch a couple of you tube videos before I got started.

existing fill tube was leaking where the water line connected.
I found the instructions on line which seemed very simple but I soon learned otherwise. The instructions say to remove the water line and then firmly pull the fill tube out as it is a tight fit. I couldn't get the tube out and ended up removing the lower freezer door/tray, the upper tray and the icemaker where I found the water had frozen solid in the end of the tube. I used a hair dryer to melt the ice then I could easily remove the tube. After several attempts to install the new tube I finally inserted a 3/8" OD flex tube thru the passage then I was able to slide the new fill tube over this and get it in place. I then reinstalled the icemaker, upper tray and the door/tray assembly. Turned the water on the check for leaks then plugged the unit back in and all is working well.

Every 60 to 90 days my filler tube freezes solid. In the past, to repair i have taken the tube out from the back of the refrigerator and thawed it in hot water and then re-insert. This works fine for a while. What would be a permanent fix? John
For model number KFCO22EVBL00

Hi John, Thank you for your question. I would actually suggest you take a look at your water inlet valve to make sure that it is working correctly. It sounds like that part is leaking so it is sending up water but only in very small amounts. Basically what happens is a drip up in that tube. It freezes right away and then builds up and blocks off your tube. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

How to replace fill tube for ice maker? There are no screws to hold in place. But photo shows barbs on opposite side of tube. If I rotate it will it slid out?
For model number ABB2224DEB
PartSelect logo
Hi Larry, Thank you for the question. The fill tubes are a friction fit now. You just need to force it from the hole. You can use a flat head screw driver to pry it out enough to grip and pull it out the rest of the way.Hope this helps!

Ice maker fill tube.....what is the proper entry into the ice maker? What should it look like? I had previous trouble after installing a new ice maker, 1st water sprayed all over the freezer, then I cut the hose a little thinking it was too long. The spray stopped but now the water leaks into the bottom of the freezer, ice tray does not fill completely, small cubes produced. How should the filler tube entry into the ice maker look?
For model number GB2SHDXPB01

Hi Clem, Thank you for the question. When looking at the ice maker when it is installed you should be able to see the water line coning in the back of the appliance and into the water fill cup on the back of the ice maker. Hope this helps!

The fill tube on back of the fridge does not have screws to hold it in place. Should I just pull hard to get it out of back of fridge?
For model number pbf2255heq
PartSelect logo
Hello Richard, The newer tubes use a friction fit, which can be hard to remove. Disconnect the water supply and unplug the fridge. Use a small flat blade screwdriver to force it out. Make sure the replacement is sealed tight - you may want to use caulking material to the assembly and cabinet to ensure it is air tight. I hope this helps.

Parts for elbow fill tube such as clamp and filler. Are they available?
PartSelect logo
Hello Gloria, thank you for your question. The metal bracket that holds the fill tube and tube on the back of the unit is called the COVER- WATER part number 12726003. The fill cup on the back of the icemaker that the water pours into to go into the icemaker is called the Water Fill Cup and Bearing Part Number WP628356. I hope this helps!

I am finding large puddles of water underneath the refrigerator. The only leak i see, which is very small is where the water line fits into the ice maker fill tube, tried to tighten the clamp but i it still leaks. This leak doesn't seem to be enough to cause the large puddles. Any suggestions.. thanks kenny

Hello Kenny, Thank you for the question. I suggest having the line replaced. When the the dispenser is in use it will cause more pressure on the lines and cause it to leak more. Hope this helps!

I have water leaking into ice tray and eventually it builds up so much and freezes to one big ice cube. I can get ice cubes out of it for a couple of days and then it becomes one big cube. Not sure which part i need, please help! Thank you.
For model number JFC2089HTB

Hi Maryann, Thank you for your question. If there is water building up in the ice tray, you may have to check the water inlet valve to see if the part is working correctly. You should also check the fill tube elbow and the tubing itself to make sure it is fitted correctly as well. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
