metal rubbing sound at drum edge: found seal cut and idler bearing frozen
Getting the cabinet open is always fun. Prying the top open without breaking the clips. I took a small pry bar, covered the end with gray tape and found the the clips located on the front outer edges. You push in on the metal clips from the front and lift the top off the plastic alignment dowels. Remove the back, and two front panels. Removed the drum and vacuumed out everything (inspect). Remove old seal, idler pulley assembly from back of dryer (spring & bolt & note belt routing). Glue new felt seal on drum, slide on drive belt, bolt on new idler assembly & attach spring. Attach lower inner front panel screws. Flex out front panel and lower in the drum (make sure the felt seal lip is not folded over). Complete installing front panels. Slide belt towards center of drum (see old mark). Flex idler assembly and route drive belt. Hand spin drum to align belt. Plug in and run dryer briefly to confirm things run smoothly. Align lid clips and close. Unplug and attach back panel and vent hose. ALL DONE.

Squel with heavy load
Well before ordering parts. I removed back panel with screw gun to locate issue noise. The I applied a real quilty spray lube to the tensioner an spun it a few times. Then put dryer back together and ordered parts. I'm waiting for the noise to return before I actually make the repair. Old saying if it's not broke don't fix it.

How do replace this part
PartSelect logo
Hello Leroy, Thank you for your inquiry. Lift up the lint screen cover to access the two screws, if you have the type of lint screen that has the cover built into it, just pull it out and remove the screws. Using a putty knife, insert it under the top about two inches from each corner to release the locking tabs, make sure you are going above the two bottom tabs in the release mechanism to hit the center release. Lift up the top and use a flat blade screwdriver to release the clip of the door switch. Using a 5/16 inch nut driver, remove the screws that hold the front panel on. Lift it up then pull the panel out to pull it off the latches at the bottom. In order to get the belt off the motor pulley, press the pulley towards the outside of the dryer, then take the belt off the pulley. Once it is off the pulley, you can pull it off the drum and put the new one on. Make sure the belt has no kinks or twists in it, then slide it onto the drum, sliding it back to the original position. Lift up on the idler pulley and push it towards the side of the machine, then create a loop in the belt, which you can pull over the motor pulley. Put the front panel back on by lining it onto the latches on either side and pushing down, lift the drum and line it to the front of the panel and re-attach the screws. Reconnect the door switch, press the top back into place on the locking tabs and replace the screws. Hope this helps!

I have a noise, took idler pulley off the belt, belt looks ok, but I cannot get tension on the belt now.
For model number MEDB400VQ1

Hi Tim, Thank you for your question. If the belt is not getting any tension, there may be an issue with the idler pulley and you will need to either adjust it or replace it. We hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
