The bottom mesh of the original basket was deteriorating.
The silverware basket can be lifted out using an integral handle. I tossed it away when it started crumbling. When the new part arrived, I removed it from the box, and dropped into the recess in the lower section of the dishwasher. No tools required.

Holes in the bottom of the old silverware basket.
I opened the dishwasher door. Removed the old silverware basket and replaced it with the new silverware basket. Then I disposed of the old basket.

I had my dishwasher for a while now and had never replaced the racks or the silverware hold. When should I replace it do they have a recomended “life” span? Mines lookin a little old….
Hello Pam, great question! If there is visible damage to the basket we recommend replacing it. The reasoning behind this is if it cracks and falls apart during cycle, it could break important components to your dishwasher. I hope this helps!
