Water would not drain, upper rack position couldn't be changed
Pulled out dishwasher after checking the air gap, etc. Washer would marginally pump out water and could hear motor running on drain cycle. Usual mess from water draining out of hoses.

Ohmed drain motor at 24ohms, should be 16.3 ohms from repair manual. Noted check valve, a rubber flapper, was canted out from sealing surface.

New motor ohms at 24 ohms, installed new motor prophylactilly. Installed new flapper valve through the sump. Washer checked okay for drain cycle.

Feed tube assembly was ordered as upper rack flapper valve was worn into open on upper position due to normal use. Feed tube spinner was small, so the rubber flapper was scavenged from the new assembly and used on the old feed tube assembly.

No water out the spray arms; first thing you'll notice is the top rack not getting clean.
Took racks out, loosen screw on top and back then twist feed tube to right and whole assembly can be removed. Now you should be able to see some torx screws; remove those and then remove the piece they were holding down, from there you'll see another screw, remove it and the piece and so on until there are no more screws. Now there is the food chopper cover that needs to be removed; mine was stuck there. You should notice some ribs underneath that allow the water to be sucked in while keeping really big pieces out; I got a pair of channel-locks, opened them all the way and was able to slip one of the pieces under the cover and pull straight up, once off you will see the chopper covvered in food. I cleaned mine off and it looked good, but when I put it back and stuck my finger down teh discharge tube and turned the pump, the chpper did not turn. when I put the new one in and did the same test it did turn. If the chopper is still fits in the slot, it can be cleaned and put back and work for several washes while the part is shipped. I went ahead and changed the check valve since I had it opened which is just to the right of the chopper(all you can see is a little slit and some black rubber). Use some needle nose and pull it out. I would not do this unless you plan on changing it, I pulled mine out to look at it and when I put it back so I could order the parts the dishwasher never drained properly. When you compare a new one with an old one you will see what I mean, you can drop a new one right in but the old one you will have to force in (gets water logged over time and expands). This job is very easy and a lot cheaper than a new DW...and your wife will be impressed, so do not be intimidated.

Dishwasher was not cleaning anything.
Took the two baskets out and removed the spinners which simply clip on. The bottom center spinner screws on/off using a tab in the center. Then removed four screws holding the filter cover in place. Then removed the one screw holding on the chopper cover and removed cover. Old chopper came out easily. Then rinsed and washed everything down to clean out all of the disgusting stuff that was clogging the unit. Put the new chopper in place, put chopper cover on and everything else in place and it now cleans like it was brand new!

Water was not being pumped out of the dishwasher
This site is wonderful..., thank you. Especially thanks to Nanette's detailed experience. The thing that gave me the most problem (and apparently Nanette, as well) was removing the lower round cover of the chopper assembly. Finally, some one on the internet identified the trick...put needle nose pliers in the screw-hole and pull-away. It came right out. Wish I could acknowledge the source but now can't find it.
Actually, the check valve was good, but I replaced it anyway. It was 10 times the trouble to replace than the drain pump. Wish I had started with the drain pump. By removing the drain hose, I stuck my finger in the hole and discovered the problem: the impeller was off of the pump and lying in the bottom of the drain. It was a simple thing to replace the pump. Press down on the locking mechanism and turn it to the left. When it was off, I could see that the check valve was in place and not a problem. (Of course by that time, I had already replaced it.) Good luck.

Pulverized food particles were being left on the dishes in the top rack
FIRST I TURNED OFF THE POWER GOING TO THE MACHINE!!!! Then I removed the top rack by removing the (2) end caps on the front of the rack glides first then lifting the rack upwards and out. Next I removed the bottom rack which slid out easily. I then removed the lower spray arm that was held in place by the plastic turn-screw portion of the lower spray arm support/hub. I turned the screw a few times and the spray arm was released. I then released the feed tube assembly that was held in place by (2) clips; one clip was on the back panel of the tub (above the probe area) and the other clip was on the top panel of the tub (before the upper arm spray). Then I turned the entire tube feed assembly a quarter turn to the right so that it was possible to separate/unsnap it from the feed cap on the bottom. After the feed tube was moved away I was able to access all (4) screws that holds the accumulator in place. I used an allen wrench to remove those. After the accumulator was removed I saw two screws that was holding the 2-part protective cover of the chopper assembly. The small cover came out easily, the round cover took a little jiggling and fussing until I figured out how to pop it out. The chopper was revealed when the cover came off and I found it to be very warn and a bit bent. I pulled it out by pulling it upwards and forward towards me. At this time I also removed the valve check. To my surprise it didn't look like the one that I bougth to replace it. It was missing the round disk portion. I fished around thinking it may have somehow fallen off, but I didn't find anything. I put the new one in, disk-side down. I then put the chopper assembly in place and put everything back together again. I'm not 100% sure that it is completely back to normal. It seems to leave significantly less debris than before, but I noticed that there is more water on the bottom of the basin now. So it may not have been my only problem. If anyone has experienced the same thing I would really like to know

dishwasher wasn't cleaning well
Pulled everything out the front, and dug down to find a thrashed chopper assembly (like a little garbage disposal). The previous owner just tossed anything in; pop tops, plastic cutlery, etc.
Didn't pay attention to the exact installation of the chopper as I pulled it out, but, it turns out that it only goes in one way.
Used pictures and instructions I found online as a guide and didn't have any issues.
Replaced the check valve because it isn't expensive and I was in the neighborhood.

upper spray arms were not working
Discovered through internet that it may be a bad chek-valve, Opened washer up and removed inside covers. Actually found that the chopper assembly was bent and non-functional. Ordered new assembly plus ordered a new check valve since the other was 8 years old. replaced both at the same time. Dushwasher works like new once again.

The flapper is completely broken off. Will it pass through the pump? It's loose and i can't see it any longer.
For model number KUDS01IJBL0

Hello Robert, Thank you for your inquiry. Since it could possibly get stuck in the drain hose, you may have to take the pump apart to get it out. Hope this helps!

Kenmore dishwasher does not fully drain , do you have a recommendation on repair parts?
For model number GU1200XTLB3
PartSelect logo
Hello Robert, thank you for your question. We would recommend checking the check valve to be sure water isn't able to come back in from the drain hose after the drain pump has finished pumping the unit out. If the check valve is ok, not deteriorated broken or missing, we would recommend checking the float switch, drain hoses, and drain pump. I hope this helps!

Should the sump pump check valve pull out the top using the heavy tab on top of the round section or does it require more disassembly? Mine tab is broken off and the bottom round half is still in place.

Hi- i replaced motor about 2 months ago- bought from partselect. Now we are having issue of dishwasher not draining, but not all the time? I know you can not diagnose for me. Just asking for your best guess.....do i replace drain pump or sump pump check valve, or both? thank you!
For model number KUDI01FLSS5
PartSelect logo
Hi Andrew, Thank you for your question. I would suggest taking a look at your accumulator first. That part is basically your filter. Just check to see if it looks clogged up. It that part is fine, it does look like most of the time when customers are having a draining issue it does have to do with the pump. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

We had a service repairman say that we were missing a ball check valve at the bottom of our dishwasher. We are having trouble with getting enough water in the dishwasher to wash and rinse our dishes. He did not take the dishwasher apart to check the valve you show i'm video. He said it was underneath under the door where the kick panel is. He said the ball in the check valve was missing. Is this another check valve on this machine or is the check valve part#ps11745441 what we need? Please advise. Thank you, dina

Hi Dina, Thank you for the question. Checking the parts list for the model number provided, I am not showing a ball check valve or any other check valve other then the PS11745441. I suggest giving him a call to see if he can provide a part number for the part he was referring to. Hope this helps!

Does this part failure cause the dishwasher to not empty all the water out.Thank you
For model number DU1300XTVS2
PartSelect logo
Hi Michael, thank you for your question. There are a few parts that could cause that issue. This is one of them. You may also want to check your drain pump. Check your filters and tubes for any clogging. You may also want to check the bi metal fuse and your turbidity sensor as well. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

The top arm does not spray or turn. Water just seeps out.
For model number KudI01lbs5
PartSelect logo
Hi Annmarie, Thank you for your question. If the top arm is not spraying or turning, the holes in the arm may be clogged. If they are they will need to be cleaned. If the the water is just seeping out, you may have low water pressure. Check the water inlet valve for sign cracks or leaks. If it is fine, you will need to test it with a multimeter for continuity. We hope this helps! If you have any questions, please let us know.

The wash cycle completes successfully and all seems good. However, after sitting all night the bottom of the tub accumulates water in the bottom of the tub sometimes to the point of leaking out of the washer to the floor. I run the "drain" cycle that successfully runs and all of the water is pumped successfully from the bottom of the tub. This is intermittent but happens roughly 2 out of 5 wash loads. I have cleaned and checked the hoses and screen....troubleshooting has me at replacing the pump. Could it be the check valve?
For model number 66517263402
PartSelect logo
Hello Paul, thank you for contacting us. Yes, the sump check valve is a possible cause of the issue because it is responsible for preventing the backflow of drain water. We would also recommend inspecting the water inlet valve, part number PS11746141. It supplies water to the appliance and has to cut off the supply when water is not required. Customer service is always available to help you place an order if you are having trouble doing so. Good luck with your repair.
