Door lock was in the locked position and door could not close
I bought a new door lock for 132 dollars (item number PS2037196).

Ultimately you have to get to the inside of the machine where the door lock is located in order to see if you will need this door lock that I bought.

DISCONNECT POWER FROM MACHINE.

First take off the top by taking off the 2 screws on the back of the machine.

Second take off the control panel, I believe there are about 5 or 6 screws for that.
(there's also a screw when you open up the detergent compartment on the bottom left- also, a lever must be pushed in order for the compartment to come off- it MUST be taken off).

Third unscrew the top of the front white plate.. there should be a 5 or 6 screws for that.
You don't need to take off the entire front plate.

Finally unscrew 3 screws that hold the door lock in place .. make sure your hands is in the machine- the back of door lock to catch the lock when you're on the last screw.

Gently take out the door lock from the side with the cables attached by holding the white metal door open (it bends).

Try to pull on the bottom of the door lock (its a manual release). If it doesn't release you need to buy a new door lock like I did... if it does release then you don't need a door lock and just reassemble.
(Note: You can also try plugging in the machine and THEN pulling down on the manual release. When I tried this the door lock just vibrated and nothing happened so I bought a new door lock.)

If you have the new door lock continue here:

Take out all 3 cables on the old door lock by pressing on the corresponding clips.

Attach the new door lock with the correct cables. Assemble machine back together.

Thats it.

Quarter was in the Water Pump
The repair was very simple I also broke the door latch when this happen as well to get the water out of the drum. Both components were very simple to replace and took less than a hour. My order was deliver very promply even a day earlier than I expected. Everything was correct and the price was well below any price I could find in town or on any other web site. I hope I never need anything else for this equipment but if I do this will be my first choice for the parts purchase. Thanks, Jason Frost,Texas

Door hangs down so you have to lift it when closing. Eventually the whole latch mechanism broke.
Pull washer away from wall and find two screws in back next to top edge. Undo and pull top of machine off (lip on fron edge under face cover). reach down and unplug three plugs on door latch small one on top, biggest on bottom. Unscrew the three screw holding the latch on the front of the machine, take out the old and put in the new. Note, I pluged in the plugs before screwing the new one in place, and that might be easier. Put the top back on.
I couldn't find any way to adjust the door, so you still have to lift it up when closing.

Broken lock needed replacement
The best way to do it is not the way I started.
The best way is to 1st remove the bellow's front clamp with a small screwdriver at the spring. 2. unplug the 3 sets of wires attached to the lock. 3. remove the 3 screws on the front that hold the lock. 4. remove the plastic ribbon harness that attaches to the lock. 5. remove the old lock. 6. install the lock back carefully moving aside the cables. 7. install the 3 screws. 8. attach the ribbon harness. 9. attach the cables. 10. replace the bellow. 10. replace the clamp (here you may need someone's help to keep the rubber in place.) 11. the last part to fall in place is where the spring is. 12. If you can't do all by tact then you may want to remove the 3 screws from the top cover to be able to c where all fits.

Door would not open.
It takes 2 people to do this repair. The bellow is the hardest part. One person has to hold the bellow in one spot, and the other person has to put it on the rim of the drum all the way around. Sort of like putting a tire on a bicycle. Dont do what I did and pry the door open. If you do that you will have to get a new door lock control at $54.Take off the lower front panel and reach up to the manual releace tab on the right side and pull down. Please make sure that the power is turned off, unplug the washer from the wall for your safety. The door switch itself is easy to replace, 3 screws, 3 plugs. Hope this helps.

Hi David, Thank you for your inquiry. Where your washer is not starting the part that fixes the issue the majority of the time is the door lock latch. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Machine will not start, nor will it do anything when we try different settings, their is a red light lower left that says control locked.
For model number GHW9100LW2

Hello Bill, Thank you for your inquiry. "Control Locked" means that the child lock feature which prevents the machine from starting is turned on, try pressing and holding the End of Cycle signal button on the right side of the panel for 15 seconds. Hope this helps!

My washer was running through a cycle during a storm and the power went on and off a few times. The washer cut off and will not power back on. I checked the breaker and the outlet and both are working. The clothes were locked in so I watched a video how to release the door mechanism and got the clothes out. I called a local repair company and the tech came out and didn't do anything but plug it in and checked the breaker. He then said its either the do locking mechanism or the main control board and he would call me back with a price for both. Shouldn't there be a way to diagnose which it is so I don't have to pay for both and only hope one works?

Hi Dave, Thank you for the question. If there is no lights coming on and it is not powering on at all then It would more then likely be the control board. Usually with the door lock the lights on the control board will still come on but you would get a error or the door would not open but it would still power on. Hope this helps!

I have a Whirlpool duet washer machine replaced part number wpa182634 Whirlpool replacement latch for door . Still not working code f dl still coming on. What do i do??
For model number GHW9400PW0
PartSelect logo
Hello Christina, thank you for your question. The F/DL does indicate a door lock failure. The door lock assembly, control board and harness would be the parts that might cause this problem. Try pushing in on the door while it is trying to lock and see if there is any improvement. Make sure the connections are tight. Quite a few other customers had the same issue, and checked the connections to make sure they were tight and that fixed the issue. If the latch connections are nice and tight, the other issue could be the control board itself. I hope this helps!

I have a Kenmore front loading washer. There is a small, spring loaded button, which seems to act as a safety of some kind in conjunction with the door latch. It has broken off. The washer will not operate without it engaged. Is it an integral part of the door lock (part number 8181700?) do i need to replace the entire door lock to repair this small piece of plastic?
For model number 110.42922200
PartSelect logo
Hi Tim, Thank you for your question. This spring is referred to as the door lock plunger spring. It holds tension against the plunger to push the plunger into the door latch. If the spring has broken you will need to replace it. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

I have a Maytag front loading washer model number mfw9600sq0. I just replaced the door latch, but it didn't fix my issue. The water runs into the washer, however it never spins, it just sits there quietly until it's time to drain, which it does fine. It's like my whole spin cycle is missing. Occasionally i will also get a short quick buzz noise. Any other ideas on how to trouble shoot this? Thanks
For model number MFW9600SQ0

Hi Holly, Thank you for the question. Sounds like the timer that sends the appliance into the cycles is defective. When the timer is defective it can skip one or more cycles or not advance at all. The timer for your model is built into the Electric Control Board. Hope this helps!

What is needed to fix a f 11 code? I am able to reset, but I would like to made needed repairs before the problem remains and I can't reset!
For model number GHW9150PW0
PartSelect logo
Hello Lowell, Thank you for the question. The tech sheet inside the washer says this is a communications error between two control boards, the CCU (central control unit/ User Interface) PartSelect Number PS988707 and MCU (motor control unit) PartSelect Number: PS10064572. Unfortunately the CCU has been discontinued. You can check the wiring between the two boards to ensure everything is secure and does not need to be replaced. If the wiring is good, one of the two boards would need to be replaced. Hope this helps!
