Lower Bake Oven Element not heating
Electrically tested the element for open circuit and found that it had blown. Bought new element and fitted same. Process is simple on this machine.This job can be done from inside the oven enclosure without having to move the unit away from the wall. SWITCH OFF ELECTRICAL SUPPLY TO MACHINE _ FIRST!Unscrew 4 screws holding plate against back wall of lower oven. Gently pull the element until you expose the the two flat 'spade' electrical connectors,use the pliers to disconnect the connections and then simply reverse the above procedure when re-installing the new element.However, I was a bit unlucky because this element replacement did not fix the original no heat problem. Looked at the electrical schematic drawing supplied with the oven and saw that the only other potential areas for investigation was the lower oven thermocouple and the rather expensive control module located in the upper part of the oven. The thermocouple was working because the temperature of the lower oven was registering and the upper bake element in the lower oven was getting hot. Made some phone calls to Maytag and they were no help at all. "We no longer give service advice over the phone because of potential legal issues". Found a local Maytag repair agent and after quotes that meant it would be just as cheap to buy a new oven, I elected to buy and replace the H3 Control Module. I ordered the unit . It arrived in 24 hours by standard mail. How to replace the module. Again switch off electrical supply to the oven at the breaker unit and pull oven away from wall to gain clear access to the rear of the appliance. Unscrew the top 4 screws holding the rear metal covers to the display unit on the top of the unit. Check that the module numbers are the same before proceeding. You will find that the shipped module does not come with the printed circuit board (PCB). This is OK, the PCB is mostly for the wiring connectors only. Pull the connectors quite firmly by hand, keeping pressure for support onto the back of the PCBU. The connectors are generally color-coded, or have unique slot allignments. You may find that the pcb is strapped with a plastic tie wrap. Cut the wrap first. Unscrew the two retaining screws holding the module assembly to the oven front face and remove the module from the oven. On the new unit, remove the clear plastic film from the display screen and reverse the above procedure to re-install. Keep the module because if this problem should manifest itself again. The module relays can be de-soldered and intechanged for future repairs.

Easy as pie
2 screws to loosen and 2 wires to connect on blades of element.

This job couldnt be easier. Just remember to SHUT THE POWER OFF BEFORE WORKING ON 220v stove.

I Had no or low heat from lower element
Well all that was needed was to remove the two screws that held the element to the frame. I remove the screws and the two connection from the element. PLUG N PLAY. It's working and my wife is happy.

Element failed spectacularly; bright electric arc then the element broke apart
First I removed the two screws that hold the element in place. I then pulled the element out about 3 inches and disconnected the two wires. I connected the new element and screwed it into place.

oven heating elements were burned out
I unplugged the oven then, one element at a time, I removed the screws and pulled the connecter out of the sleeve. This was the hardest part as it is a tight fit. Then, reverse the order to replace the element. The upper elements were more work because of the brackets used to hold them in place. But this only took alittle more time to remove and replace each one. When I plugged the oven back in and turned it on everything worked great! Back to baking!

Lower bake element started sparking and split in to.
Removed 2 phillips head screws, disconnected the 2 wires. Installed new element, connected wires then installed screws. Took less than 3 minutes. What i liked was how fast I received the new element. Ordered online on Friday around 12:30 and received Saturday morning by 9:00 AM. Excellent transaction!

bottom element caught on fire, when looked at it, it was broken in two.
Turned off breaker to oven, removed racks, unscrewed the plate holding the element in place, and pulled out the wires a few inches. All easy and fine to this point. Never having done anything like this before, I wasn't sure HOW the element was attached to the wires, so tugged on them a bit, but nothing budged. Got a flashlight (it got dark in there with the upper part of my body in there)looked again, but still couldn't tell. Referred to this site and saw reports of "plug and play", went back and examined the ends more closely on old and new element, realized that they slide straight on and straight off in a "sleeve". Got some pliars and pulled the ends apart. Slid the new end on to one wire, but couldn't get the other one on until I realized I had crushed it a bit with the pliars. Reopened the "sleeve" with a vegetable knife and slid the other end of the element into the "sleeve" at the end of the wire. Then pushed the wires back in and screwed plate on. It took about 23 minutes, and that included time to look up this site and do some reading, jump up to find a flashlight, and jump up and find a pair of pliars. My hubby was out of town for 3 weeks and suggested I wait til he got home--glad I didn't wait.

Baking element in lower over failed with a "bang"
PULLED THE POWER CORD!! Loosened a couple of screws holding the element to the rear oven wall, removed the electrical wires (red on left, yellow on right) attached to the baking element, removed old element, inserted new element and reattached the wires respectively thereto. One minor glitch did occur. The RED wire inadvertently slipped back through the hole into the insulation and was not retrievable. I removed the small metal plate housing the wires on the back bottom of the stove, pushed the red wire (plentiful length) back into the oven, reinstalled the plate, connected the red wire to the bake element, reconnected the power, element began to heat. Mission accomplished. One caution: Pay attention to the SHAPE of the failed element before ordering online or buying in person.

Hi Craig, great question! Replacing the lower bake element should not be a difficult installation. After disconnecting the power, you will need to remove the screws that hold the element in place, there should be 2. You can then carefully pull the element out, until the wire terminals are visible. Unplug old element from the wires and plug the new element in. From there you can install the new replacement part. Best of luck with this repair!

Are the "prongs" for the lower baking element on the right or left side? The element in my stove now has "prongs" on the back right side where the element attaches to the stove. The part picture looks as if the "prongs" are on the left side.

I mistakenly hit the lower element with my plastic glove and the power in the whole range went out. My husband reset the breaker and it went back off. So we unplugged the stove and after we figured out how to reset it worked fine. Do you think the element is damaged? Will the circuit breaker shut down until we replace the element? Can I turn the breaker on and test the other stove burners if I take the element out? Thanks again

Hello Wanda, we would recommend to first check the terminal block to see if anything has been damaged or loosened, especially where the power cord connects. Then you should check the range for shortage using an ohm meter at the terminal block, if the connection is there you will get a reading. If you get a reading you can slowly disconnect components one at a time until the continuity reading disappears. This will mean that the component that you disconnected right before the continuity disappeared is where your problem lies. There should be a wiring diagram that can help you pinpoint the different components and aid in finding the shortage. Please let us know if you have any further questions!

Hello Mike, thank you for contacting us. You would remove the two screws that hold the element in place. Then pull the element out about 3 inches and disconnect the two wires. If there is a lot of resistance on the wires you can clip them or clamp them so they don't fall back in the holes, then just connect them to the new element and install. Hope this helps!

Why will my lower oven not get as hot as I want it to? Whats wrong?

Hi Krista, we recommend testing your oven sensor with a multi-meter tool, it should read 1090 ohms of resistance at room temperature. If this test goes well you should test your bake element for continuity. If that also goes well, based on your symptoms, you have a faulty control board on your range. I hope this helps!

While attempting to replace this lower element---one of the wirers disconnected---i can't seem to fish it out of back of oven. Any suggestions ? If i pull the whole range out from wall will i have access to the wires ?

I need a new lower element in my Jenn Air dual fuel double oven. According to what I see on your website, I think part # ps11744518 is what I need. However, I am wondering if the measurements given in your product description will work. The current element that needs replaced is 16" from back to front (starting where it is mounted) and 19" from side to side. There is 2" between the 2 element plugs.

The lower element burnt out (broke) ordered replacement ps11744518. Replacement seemed to go fine but the new element will not heat. It very slowly warms to 305 degrees and goes no farther. Do you have any suggestions?

Hello John, Thank you for the question. I suggest testing the Long Oven Sensor, PartSelect Number PS1570174. This long oven sensor is also commonly known as a temperature sensor. It is designed for use with ovens and ranges. It is similar to a thermostat; it measures and regulates the internal temperature of your oven cavity.Testing the temperature sensor probe on your oven is easy. With the sensor at room temperature, measure the resistance between the two prongs at the end of the sensor connector. The resistance of the sensor should read approximately 1080 – 1090 ohms at room temperature. Hope this helps, good luck with this repair!
