oven door difficult to open and shut
Initially installed two oven hinges. To remove door: fully open oven door and insert a small nail (wire or metal paper clip will work) into the hole on the moveable arm on each hinge. (This pin will prevent the hinge from snapping shut when you remove the door.) Next you remove one screw from the small cover plate where the hinge enters the body of the stove. After removal, close the door to broiling position (about two or three inches open). Now lift the entire door up and then out away from the stove (this action will lift the hinges up and off of the pins on the hinge receptacle and allow you to remove the entire door). Remove the several screws that attach the door "skin" to expose the hinges. Remove two screws from one end of each hinge and disengage the retaining arms from the slots on the other end to remove each hinge. Installation is the reverse. I decided to disassemble the oven door glass and clean all sides. This took a lot longer than the hinge replacement but looks new again. Your new hinges will have cute little pins that you will need to remove before it will close (install door and open completely to install cover plates and then remove pins) FYI, I didn't know about this Parts Select site so I had purchased the hinges without installing the hinge receptacles (the small metal case with the pins that attaches the door to the stove). My site didn't have the hinge receptacles and it didn't appear that they could be defective. BIG MISTAKE! The door did not close completely......it was easy to open and close but it was not sealing properly. After researching on the internet I found that new hinges require new/redesigned receptacles as the pins are slightly different. So after installing the receptacles (remove door to access four small 1/4 metal screws) on the stove sides (our built-in stove doesn't have sides so acess was easy). The door closed properly.

Both door hinges broke.
I removed two retaining screws that keep the hinges from falling off the stove. I lifted the door up and the hinges disengaged from their mounting pins. I put the door on the kitchen counter and removed the screws holding the stainless steel door cover on. The hinges have two small screws at the back of each hinge. I removed those and the hinge lifts out. I put a new hinge in and replaced the two small screws. I did the same on the other side. Then I picked up the door and put the hinge mounts through their respective openings on either side of the oven and dropped them into place. I replaced the retaining screws and that was it. Door hinges replaced! It literally took me about 15 minutes and I had never done it before.

JennAir oven door very difficult to open and close
After reading three other reviews I decided to replace the hinges to save $ (REPAIR SERVICE ESTIMATE WAS $200 +). As another reviewer stated " I spent more time removing and cleaning the glass viewing doors than replacing the hinges". One critical part of the hinge replacement is the removal of the heavy oven door. TO AVOID INJURY DURING DOOR REMOVAL IT IS IMPORTANT TO INSERT A "PIN, SMALL NAIL, HEAVY PAPER CLIP" INTO THE SMALL HOLE ON THE ARMS OF THE HINGES. If you fully open the door you will see a small hole on one part of each hinge arm. As the door closes the arm with this hole slips between the other hinge parts. Inserting a pin will prevent the hinge from snapping shut when you remove the door and potentially smashing your finger with its strong spring. Once inserted you can remove the cover plate for the hinge pocket (one screw each side). Close the door to "broiling position" (about two/three inches open) and lift the door up off the bars within the hinge pockets to remove from stove. (Our SS range doesn't have sides so you could see how the door hinges just slip over and lock onto the pins in the hinge pockets.......the pocket trim covers lock the hinges on the pins during normal operation. At this point you just need to remove a few screws to remove the SS door skin to expose the hinges. Remove the one or two screws at the end on the hinge and lift that end up to slide the other end out of the retaining slots. Installation is the reverse...the replacement hinges have cute little pins that hold them open so, after installing on oven door, you can insert them into the hinge pockets and onto the pins as you hold door in the "broil position". After reinstalling the hinge pocket cover plates, you can open the door and easily remove the retaining pins. Sounds like a lot but probably would take approximately one hour if you don't remove glass for cleaning.

broken hinge on oven door
If I had known there was a shipping pin holding the hinge in place, it would have gone a lot easier. I thought I had the wrong replacement hinge but finally figured it out. A little note with the hinge indicating a shipping pin must be removed to complete installation would be helpful to idiots like me. Now that I know, the job is only a 15 minutes.

door was very difficult to close
repair was simple, removed a total of 8 screws and seperated the two door panels to replace the 2 hinge assemblies. I spent more time degreasing the door and window then replacing the hinges.

Oven hinges worn out
Followed video on PartSelect website. Be sure to insert small "bent" finishing nails into old hinges before removing door. You will see small hole on each hinge. It will make the job so much easier.

The hinge does not close all the way, can you adjust tension?
For model number SVD48600P
PartSelect logo
Hello Michael, Thank you for the question. Very sorry the hinges are not adjustable. Normally this is an indication one of the hinges is damaged and would need to be replaced. We recommended replacing both hinges together as they do wear over time and one being more worn the the other will cause stress on the new hinge. To replace the hinge you will need to open the door at 45 degree angle and lift up and out of hinge receiver on the body of the appliance. You then want to remove the panel from the inner door. It should have screws at top of door and bottom. Remove the screws holding hinge on to the door and replace the hinge. Reinstall in reverse. If you need help placing an order, customer service is open 7 days a week. Please feel free to give us a call. We look forward to hearing from you!

The door does not close completely. The repairman came out and replaced the springs in the door. They worked for a few weeks and then would not stay completely closed. The repairman said the new springs are not as strong as the original. I am also wondering if the hinge could be part of the problem?
For model number SVD48600P
