Vegetables kept freezing regardless of temp setting.
I noticed that the thin plastic flap was missing. I squeezed the housing, unsnapped and pulled. INstalling the new part was just the reverse. No more frozen vegetables.

Freezer cold/reefer hot
Took out all shelves and racks. Pulled out plastic cover. Removed screws holding control unit. Removed unit and accresses defrost circuit board. Replacement is in a cover. One screw would not engage so did not put it back in. Reefer was cold within hour of start and is now 1 week after. Unit would start out cold and then warm up before replacement. Other parts were snap in furnishings that had become damaged with use.
Called a serviceman. The Air return cover is NOT the cover we replaced. Ours is 3/4 of the way down on the freezer side of fridge. Put a thermometer inside, to monitor it.

Hi, i'm experiencing a small issue with ice forming on the right side of the chiller compartments at the bottom of the fridge part of my Maytag fridge freezer. It's quite old now but still seems to be in great shape. I notice there is a blue windowed connection to the freezer behind the affected compartments and looking at your website am directed to "air return cover" as a solution to the fridge being too cold although the part doesn't look exactly the same as the one in my fridge. Is this a possible culprit of the symptom i describe please? Many thanks for any help you can offer. Simon
For model number GC2228EEDB
Hi Simon, Thank you for the question. This is a possible cause. I suggest removing it and seeing if it is frozen open or damaged. If this return is allowing to much cold air through it can cause the ice build up. Hope this helps!
