Ring Balancer had come loose and broke releasing the liquid inside that helps balance the basket.
First I removed the screws on top and at the bottom that holds the controls in place to the washer itself. I then removed the control panel and disconnected it off of the washer. I then released the two metal holders that keep the back of the washer in place with the front frame of the washer. I slid the metal exterior forward and away from the rest of the washer exposing the basket. I removed the top layer that holds the ring balancer in place and then was able to reach the ring balancer itself. I removed the old one and discarded it replacing it with the new ring balancer. I pressed it down onto the top of the basket as if you were putting a top back on to a tuppaware dish. I then put the top layer back on and then proceeded to put the exterior of the washer sliding it back in to place. The whole process took maybe about 45-55 minutes and it went relatively smooth especially after knowing how to remove each piece from observing a maintenance job one day.

Balance ring part number wp3956205. How much liquid should it have in it? I took it off my washer to inspect & it is about half full. Is that the amount a new part would have? I have checked all the springs & pads in the machine & believed the balance ring caused the bad runout & vibration when spinning a balanced load.
For model number LBR5133AN0

Hi Donald, Thank you for your question. Balance rings are 1/2 to 3/4 full of liquid. If the balance ring is leaking or has lost all of its liquid, then it will need to be replaced. We hope this helps! Good luck with the repair!

I’ve only been able to check the springs and the snubber pads.My question is “how do i remove the balance ring”, or “how do i access the clips to remove the balance ring.” regards, cw

Hi CW, Thank you for contacting us back. Here is some installation information that a customer has posted on our website that you may reference on how to remove/install the balance ring, "First I removed the screws on top and at the bottom that holds the controls in place to the washer itself. I then removed the control panel and disconnected it off of the washer. I then released the two metal holders that keep the back of the washer in place with the front frame of the washer. Good luck with the repair.

Boy, i sure hate to be a pest. Yesterday i did read the gentleman’s description of his repair, however with regard to the balance ring he only says “i removed the old one and discarded it replacing it with the new ring balancer.” So how did he “remove the old one”?According to the illustrated parts breakdown there are clips that hold the balance ring to the inner tub, but they’re not visible (at least to me) so it’s not readily apparent as to how to “unclip” the clips nor how many of them there are. thanks for taking the time for my continuous questions. regards, cw.

Hi CW, Thank you for getting back to us. To release the clips, you can try and use a rubber mallet and lightly tap on the clips to release them. When installing the balance ring, you will need to push down hard so the clips can engage the tub. I hope this helps with the repair. Have a great day!

The washer shakers terribly when in its spin cycle (no clothes). I understand there are 3 possibilities for the shaking: Tub springs, snubber pads, and the balance ring.I’ve removed and inspected the springs and they appear functional - all are rust free, completely compressed once removed, and all are the same length. the snubber pads are all there, though not knowing their original thickness i can’t tell how worn they are, but there is no metal grinding/scraping sounds when the machine is running. i have disassembled the washer to the point where i can access the balance ring. i understand it’s secured to the inner tub by clips. my question is “how do i remove the balance ring”, or “how do i access the clips to remove the balance ring.” any help is appreciated! regards, cw

Hi CW, Thank you for your question. If the tub is shaking during the spin cycle and you have already checked the main 3 parts that would cause this issue, there are some other parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the suspension pads, the agitator directional cogs, the leveling legs, the suspension spring retainer and the direct drive motor coupling. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
