A burner wouldn't spark strongly enough to light the gas.
Replacement of these burners is very easy. You just twist the burner counterclockwise a quarter turn and pull it out. (You may need a big wrench if the range is very old.) Once out, just pull the two wires off and push them onto the new burner. Crimp them on with pliers if they're loose -- mine were. Twist the burner back on.
If the gasket under the burner has disintegrated, don't worry about it. They don't offer replacements for them because they're not necessary as a safety feature. They were designed to keep overspills from running under the cooktop, but the ridge around the hole is likely higher than you'd ever need.

Burner Was Worn Out
Burner head arrived when I got home from work. Just timely to cook for dinner that monday night, got the 4 burners disconnect the element from the old burner, then connect element to the new bunners, in less than 10 mins, and I had save estimate $600 buying a brand new stove or gas range, this will last me another5 to 10 years. Especially this time of recession

Rusted sealed burner
The burner rusted after years of spaghetti pots boiling over. When I went to twist the the burner to remove it the top portion broke off. This left the bottom side of the burner stuck into the cook-top. I put some 3-in-1 oil on the rusted rim for a day or two. I had to drill the phillips head screw and twist it with a vise grip. I used a pair of pliers to grab the center of the broken-off burner part. After a few tries it broke loose and was out. The rest was easy. I recommend sealing the rim between the burner and the cook-top. I used silicone sealant. This should keep the water from leaking underneath the burner and into the cook-top.

Unscrewed burners (1/4 turn and pop out) then removed set screws, opened top of range. Used 1/2" wrench to remove gas pressure fittings, popped new ones in, replaced wires. Placed top down and then put screws in to minimze movement of tubes.

Units were ready to replace
Disconnected the burner cap, unscrewed the drip bowl screws (2), removed the drip bowls, installed the new bowls and reconnected the burner cap. I intended to replace all four drip bowls but two of them came with large chips on the edges. I plan to purchase two replacements soon.

burner didn't self ignite or control flame
The burners turn and lift. I replaced two. One turned very easily, the other was stuck so I used liquid wrench and plumbers pliers. I did get it off. Once off, the old wires slipped right off and onto the new burners. Those twisted on very easily. Good as new easy breezy.

Burners would not ignite flame...Had to start with match.
Removed the old burners with a Plumbing Pipe Wrench by turning 1/4 turn counter clockwise. Disconnected (2) wires and replaced with new Sealed Burners. The simmer burner wires were slightly diffrent from the original but they do fit by opening the connector with screwdriver and then clamping once wire inserted.

old burner that didn't light and was burning poorly
I used a pipe wrench to turn the old burner off and removed the crumbling washer underneath- no need to replace this. I took off the 2 wires, crimped them onto the new burner, twisted it back into place and presto- all fixed!

We live near the pacific ocean - the air is "caustic" from the salt. The burner was rusting out. and the flame was uneven.
The repair was a no brainer - twist to release the old burner - disconnect the spark wires. connect the spark wires on the new unit - drop it in and twist to lock - about 2 minute job

None of the stove top burners will ignite from the spark igniter. Is there a central module controlling these spark units or do i have to replace all four burners?
For model number FCG20510W

Hi Mickey, there is the Flat Style Oven Igniter Kit part number PS1573892. It is what provides the heat needed to open the gas valve, and it ignites fuel for the burner assembly. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair!

Two burners were easy to replace - twist off and twist on. But two are stuck on and won’t budge. Is there a tool that can wrench them off? Like a plumbers tool for stuck faucets?
For model number 31213
PartSelect logo
Hi Rita, thank you for contacting us. Mix water and baking soda to create a paste. Apply a thin layer of the paste to the burner heads and caps. Allow them 15-30 minutes. This may take repeated applications. Use a toothbrush or scrub brush to clean and attempt to remove it. We hope this information helps!
