Push-To-Start Switch - 2 Terminal

Turn off the circuit breaker ( Or remove the Fuse/s )to the dryer,

Removed 2 screws that hold the control cluster to the dryer top. Then I slid the control cluster forward and up to release it from the dryer. then I removed the start button knob to the start switch by pulling on it straight out. Next I removed the six 1/4" hex head screws from back of the removed control cluster. Then using a flat bladed screwdriver I pried up the tab coming off the switch housing. just enought to allow the switch to be turned a quarter of a turn counter clockwise which allows the switch to be removed from the back of the control cluster. Next with a pair of long nose pliers gently pull straight up on the 2 wire terminals attaching wires to the switch. Make a diagram before removing them so that they can be put on the new switch in the same way. Then orient the new switch with its tab located a quarter turn counter clockwise from the hole you pried the old switch tab from. push down on the switch while turning it clockwise 1/4 turn so the tab on the switch drops into it's locking hole. Then using your diagram put the wire terminals back on the switch terminals in the same order and position they came off. Replace the Control panel with the screws you removed. Next position the control panel feet over the holes for them in the top of the dryer and push back a little on the panel to lock it in the correct position. Then take the two longer screws and put one on each side of the panel at the correct angle (not straight up and down) but tilted forward to match the holes and carefully tighten the screws. Next carefully replace the push to start knob on the new switch. Turn the Circuit Breaker (or reinstall the Fuse/s) for the Dryer back on. Then test and make sure that when you select the cycle and the door is closed that pushing the start switch causes the dryer to start. You have done it!

I first went to your website and searched by category the symptom of my clothes dryer, "Dryer would not start." Your site is EXCELLENT! I quickly determined the 5 potential causes. I then found the owner's manual and located where the likely broken parts are within my machine.

Armed with that knowledge, a nut driver and a volt meter, I pushed the dryer back from the wall and removed the sheet metal back. Bingo! My volt meter proved that the thermal fuse was blown.

I also confirmed my Push to Start Switch was bad with my volt meter. I ordered both parts on line on a Friday night and I plug them in on a Tuesday night.

My wife was so impressed with my appliance repair that she told her family and friends. It was a wonderful thing to replace two $15 components and not have to purchase a new $500 dryer!

No, if that had of been the problem, it would have worked. However, I called a service man out to look at it. It was a fuse that does not look like a fuse. I had the system already torn apart and cleaned. The service took a meter and checked the fuse ( that did not look like a fuse) and it was bad. It cost 14.00 for the fuse, it took less than 5 minutes for installation and the service fee was $65.00. My advise, get a meter, check everything yourself, and only purchase what you need.

First I tried a new switch, This did not fix the problem. Then I replaced the Fuse in the back of the unit.

I removed 5 screws from the back of the top panel, removed the back panel, removed the start button from front of dryer, twisted the old start switch from the back, removed the two leads, reinstalled new part in reverse order. It was that simple! 15 minutes top. Dryer works fine. Gave me a chance to vacuum out all the dust bunnies and clean out the dryer vent pipe as well.

Dryer would not start when the start switch was pushed. I was advised by the local repair shop to replace the "push to start switch" and the "thermal fuze". I unplugged the dryer and removed the back dryer casing which took all of 3 minutes. I removed the start switch and thermal fuze using directions on the whirlpool parts forum. This took maybe 5 minutes. I replaced with the new parts and put the casing back on the dryer. The entire project took 15 minutes. The dryer works perfectly. 34 USD for parts and shipping instead of 600 for a new dryer. Easy to identify the parts needed using the model number and the parts arrived the next morning I will use this company again for sure!

Removed top pane. l removed the start switch and timer. Re-installed new timer and switch(exact same wiring). And the machine works like new.

Two screws hold the top control panel in place. Once removed the panel could be tipped forward. The Push to Start switch had 2 wires which were removed and swapped to the new starter switch. The old one rotated 90 degrees to remove and the new one installed. Panel was resecured to the top of the dryer and tested. Worked first time. Finding the part on the website, ordering it, receiving it quickly and the install couldn't have been easier or more pleasant or efficient.

Let me start by saying that this was my first appliance repair EVER, & it was super easy. After watching the partselect.com video showing me how to replace the thermal fuse and starter switch, I finished the repairs within 20 minutes. I simply removed the back and top of the dryer, located the appropriate part, & replaced them according to the video. Even though it was a small accomplishment, I still felt very proud of myself.

Removed button from on/off switch. Removed two screws from base of top control panel. Rotated panel up on hinges. Rotate switch quarter turn and removed from back. Removed wires and attached to new switch in same position. Replaced switch, folded down panel and reinserted screws. Did the trick.
