The old lint filter was worn, and would "pop up" so that clothes weren't being moved about during the wash and rinse cycles. If I didn't frequently push it down again, it would fly off during a spin cycle. Dangerous!
I simply lifted the lint filter and its cap off, pressed the new agitator cap onto the new lint filter and put the assemblage into place. No tools needed at all. A $50 dollar repair saved me from replacing my washer/dryer! I'm very pleased.

Upper Agitator & cogs wore out
I pulled the cap and took a socket wrench turned the stud agit off and removed the upper agitator. Than I assembled the new agitator with the new clogs put the agaiator back on and tightened the stud agit. Replaced new cap and done! Easy job!! Everything is working like new again. This whirlpool washer is 14 years old and still going strong!

Top portion of agitator wouldn't turn.
First I removed the top cap on the agitator, then I removed the second cap inside the agitator. I moved the agitator with my hands and saw that the "dog ears" were worn and no longer touched the agitator and couldn't move it. I then used a nut driver to remove the nut that held the top portion of the agitator onto the bottom portion. I made a note of the worn parts, got online at PartsSelect.com and ordered the replacement parts. A few days later the parts arrived and I repeated the above process in reverse using the new parts. It now works like new!!! It wasn was very easy. Thanks!!!

The old agitator would fly off during spin cycle due to broken tabs
I just lined up the tabs with the slots on the spindle and it snapped right on with small amount of pressure. The cap also snapped right on. Might as well replace the cap for and extra 6 bucks if you have to replace the agitator.

How do you remove the agitator cap on the NTW4516?
For model number NTW4516
PartSelect logo
Hi Michael, Thank you for your question. The agitator cap is just pressed onto the top of the agitator. To remove the old agitator cap, insert a small flathead screwdriver into the slot on the agitator cap to pry it loose. To install the new agitator cap, line it up with the upper agitator and then press down on it to lock it into place. We hope this helps! If you have any questions, please let us know.

How do you install the top agitator cap. It seems to be the same size as the agitator hole and will not fit in even when lubed with soap.
For model number LSR6332KQ0
PartSelect logo
Hello Jim, thank you for your question. Sometimes over time, the plastic cap or agitator can warp slightly and cause the cap to not seat in the agitator properly. I would recommend replacing the agitator which includes the cap PartSelect Number PS334557. I hope this helps!

For some reason the agitator cap comes off during the cycle. It doesn't matter which cycle i use. The washer seems to be functioning properly i just have to look for the cap after each wash so i don't put it in the dryer. I don't want to buy a new cap because i don't know if it will solve the problem. The cap looks fine.
For model number LXR7244PQ

Hello Alen, thank you for your question. If the cap isn't broken, or cracked in any way the issue would be with the agitator itself. I would recommend replacing the agitator, which would come with a new cap as well. The part number for the agitator is 285574. Good luck with your repair!
