Burner would randomly overheat on any setting (Bad Control Switch)
1) Unplug stove.
2) Remove back cover of the stove held in place by 8 screws (4 short ones for the upper holes and 4 longer ones for the lower holes.).
3) Remove the knob from the switch that you are replacing to expose
the switch mounting screws (2 screws).
4) Remove the screws.
5) Go to the rear of the stove and extract the defective switch.
6) You will see 2 plastic plugs going into/onto the switch. Remove the
plugs. MAKE SURE YOU ARE UNPLUGGED FROM THE
Wall OUTLET!! A small flat blade may be needed to separate the
plugs from switch.
7) Attach the plugs to the new switch (there is only one way to do it.
you wont get them confused and put on wrong.
8) Put the new switch where the defective one was.
9) Come to the front of the stove and put your two screws in and
replace the knob.
10) Replace the back cover,
11) Plug in and test burner.

Burned out wires and 2 switches.
Unscrewed the switches and let the switch hang while replacing one wire at a time. Followed instructions on wire replacement. Exact parts, only shaft on 6" switch was too long -- okay, because it is designed to break off a piece on end of shaft, then the knob fit. Everything was perfect.

One of the small burners on the ceramic cook top goes to high heat when the control is on low (2-3). Is the temp sensor part of the control switch?
For model number RF368LXPB
PartSelect logo
Hello Kee, thank you for contacting us. That would be a faulty switch causing the burner to heat up like that on low. Replacing this would fix the issue. Good luck with the repair!

What does the infinite switch do....how does it work on stove? i have Whirlpool accu bake self cleaning...rf380lxmq0.
PartSelect logo
Hello Marsha, thank you for your question. The infinite control switch is what controls the heat for the top burner element. You turn the knob to desired setting and this regulates the element heat. I hope this helps!

The left front dual burner goes to high heat when knob is turned to low?
For model number GR440LXMB
PartSelect logo
Hello Kerry, Thank you for your inquiry. I would test both the burner and the switch with a multimeter to see if they have continuity. If you are unfamiliar with how a multimeter functions, there are YouTube videos available to assist you. Hope this helps!

I have a 4 burner Whirlpool electric range/oven. The back left burner (vent pipe in the center of the burner) is not working. When i turn the dial, the hot surface light goes on but nothing else happens. I replaced the receptacle but the problem persists. So, when i turn the burner on, power goes to the light but power does not go to the burner. Do i need a new element switch? Something else i should check? Thanks.
PartSelect logo
Hi John, Thank you for your question. There are really two main parts that could cause this issue. It could be either your switch or the element itself. I would suggest checking your element first with a multi meter. When testing it remove it from the appliance, it should ready between 1000 - 1100 ohms. When testing your switch make sure to remove it from the appliance and turn the switch on as you are testing it, if your meter does not change at all from the neutral position/number, then it is broken and will need to be replaced. Good luck with your repair.

The front right element control seems to not function correctly, either on with no heat below medium, you turn it up to medium and the element gets so hot it burns everything. There does not appear to be a middle setting point.
For model number YWFE515SOEWO
PartSelect logo
Hi David, thank you for the question. Based on the description you have provided, it seems that there is an issue with the infinite control switch, part number PS11740783. It turns the surface element on and off and controls how much heat the element produces. You may need to replace it to fix the issue. We hope this will resolve your problem!
