The point of the lid switch is for the tub to stop spinning when the washer lid is opened. The washer wouldn't start unless you slammed the lid shut.
I suspected the lid switch right away. Where I went wrong was in thinking that I had to get to it from below. After going to all the trouble of removing the front panel and detaching the top panel, I discovered that it was located inside the control section at the top of the appliance. It only took a few minutes to remove four screws and gain access to the old switch assembly and swap it out with the new one. One thing to note; the new switch assembly has to be set in exactly the right place along a slotted channel in order for both contacts to be activated properly. It's not difficult to find the right spot, but you have to do it consciously.

Used the online trouble shooting info. Tested as was requested. Found the lid switch. Noticed the fuse was bad. Replaced the fuse and noticed only water was cominf in. Ordered new lid switch assembly. Came with 48 hrs! Replaced and washed clothes! Great service!

unit stop working altogether a
descovered blown fuse on lid switch assembly. Checked out info on Parts Select.com they reccommended the lid switch assembly. I bought it putting it in was very easy! Problem solved!

Fuse kept blowing. Happened when opening lid.
Removed control faceplate (2 screws on top edge and flip forward). Removed wires one-by-one with needle-nose pliers and replaced on new switch to avoid mixing the connections. Removed screw and replaced switch then, replaced screw. Moderately tightened new part and operated lid. Listened for click open and closed. Adjusted switch position for proper "click". Tightened screw and replaced front panel. Done in about 10 minutes.

After the washer machine reached the water level the washer would not begin its wash cycle.
I removed the old lid switch assembly from washer and one by one exchanged the wires to replace correctly on the new part. I placed the new lid switch assembly in the washer using the screw to tighten the part in place. I turned on the washer and after the water level stop the wash cycle began immediately. Friends were impressed I used your web site to determine the part selection by the previous reviews and that I replaced the part with ease. Thank you for an user friendly web site.

The washer stopped during the rinse cycle - and full ot water.
I turned the dial to other selections and nothing worked, no power. I checked the fuse box, but nothing was off, and then I checked to make sure electricity was working with a light bulb. I googled the situation and came across this site and read other posts as they sounded exactly like what I was experiencing. I ordered the complete lid assembly not just the fuse. Washer would not fill with water, either temp.
Checked the fuse it was blown. So I replaced it, pluged the washer back in. pull the start knob that's when the lids switch sparked and blew the fuse again. Found you on line ordered the complete assemble to save me from the trouble of slowly change each. Switch out the wiring from old to the new assemble. Line it up, one screw and a little adjusting and the Maytag is back in business! Thxs Guy for the quick shipment had it in two day on a ground shipment!

The hardest part was actually finding the right part. It was easy to take of the control panel. make sure you unplug and plug in the correct wires....
I thought that would be it, but after doing that you need to fine adjust the whole assembly so that the timers and automatic switches work well.
That's about it.

I tried replacing the timer. My washer fills with water but timer won't advance, agitate or spin when I manually advance the timer and pull out click by click. Does a door switch sound like my problem?

The washer does not always drain. Sometimes resetting the dial back to the start will get it to drain at end of cycle, sometimes not. Because it works fine one time and not the next i do not think it is a hose/drain problem. It does not seem to be a misbalance issue. Possible problem?

Thank you for your question. It actually would not hurt for you to check if there is anything blocking your drain pump at all. It could be that there is a clog in your pump or your hose. Just to cover all your bases. Electrically though, you should test your list switch. If that part is malfunctioning, the machine believes that the lid is open, so when it gets to the spin cycle, it will not allow your appliance to spin and drain for safety reasons. The only other part to check would be your timer itself. Good luck with your repair.

My Maytag washer model lat9734aae will not agitate, but it does fill, drain, and spin. I have replaced the two belts underneath. I cannot move the agitator at all by hand. I've disassembled the agitator to see if there are cogs that are worn i can't see anything, as there is a spindle that is solidly attached to tub bottom. Any ideas? I see posts for lid switch problems, but as the washer spins, could i rule this out? Thanks for whatever help you can suggest.

Hi Patricia, thank you for your question. The only way to rule that part out would be to test it with a multi meter and make sure it is working correctly. There are other parts to check for an issue like this though. You could take a look at your belts, mounting stem/tub seal kit, and your tub bearing. Basically with those parts you will want to see if they are worn out and need replacing. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

My washing machine will fill, stop then the cycle will not continue to wash after I first foung the fuse blown on lid switch assembly then replaced it. Do I need a new switch assembly or a new timer motor?

Unit works on quick wash but on other cycles fills for second rinse but then stops. You can advance manually and works. Does this sound like a lid switch or timer?

Maytag washer in regular washing works on warm/warm without a problem. If on any other temperature setting, it fills with water, washes, it finishes spin cycle then click, click and then does not go into rinse cycle. If i now turn the temperature setting to warm/warm it continues, but if i quickly turn to any other temperature setting it stops. If using cold/cold setting, after it stops before starting the rinse cycle, i can push the button in and advance it a couple of clicks and then it will continue to run the rest of the way. What part is suspect? Temperature switch (no longer available so i hope it isn't the problem), water inlet valve or the timer? Thank you for taking the time to answer my query.
