transmission wore out
After struggeling the most with lifting out the inner drum and then the wash drum. I realized when the job was complete a better way. 1. Take the top off the washer. 2. take the front off the washer. Then disconnect all wires and hoses from assembly One small hose on the tub and the pump hose at the bottom. 3. at the bottom of the overall assembly there are 3 braces holding the tub assembly with 2 springs on each brace. Go under and remove the springs and then lift the whole assembly out into the middle of the floor. 4. remove the top cap off of the agitator. 5. remove the agitator. 6. if you are lucky and the bolts are not seized in the block that holds the shaft remove the small steel block from the bell and remove the bell. 6. Slide the inner tub up and off the shaft and again if all goes well the outer wash tub should slip up off the shaft as well. 7. remove the drive belt from the motor and transmission.

I'm wondering if this is right part to try. Washing machine seems to work fine except it won't agitate. No noises coming from it, spin cycle works, and no loud noises coming from it. I was going to replace with this part first to see if it will do the trick. What do you think?
For model number FGX831CS1

Hi Greg, Thank you for your question. The agitator block is one part that may fix the issue. If this does not work, there are some other parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the agitator, the belt and the motor. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Hi Irene,Thank you for the question.Sounds like an issue with the timer,PartSelect Number PS418697.The timer controls most of the operations of the washer: water level, tub filling and emptying, length of cycles, and cycle setting sequences.Hope this helps!

Washer agitates but makes a clicking sound from the top portion of the agitator. No strange noises during rinse or spin cycle.

Hi Tonia, Thank you for the question. I suggest removing the Agitator Cap and the Cap under the Agitator Cap down inside the top of the Agitator to see if the bolt needs to be tightened. Hope this helps!

Is agitator drive block threaded inside?
PartSelect logo
Hello Mike, Thank you for your inquiry. We show that it is smooth inside. The agitator bolt goes down through this part and into the gear case shaft, which has a threaded hole in the top. Hope this helps!

Hi Carol, Thank you for your inquiry. If your timer is not advancing after the washer has filled with water, There are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the timer, the timer knob, the washer lid lock with external safety switch, the water level switch, the drain pump and the water inlet valve. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Hi Helen, thank you for your question. There are a few parts that could cause the issue but I would suggest first looking at your drive belt and your idler pulley. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Do you have a video to replace this part, part number PS1152574?
For model number PS1152574
PartSelect logo
Hi Everton, Thank you for your question. We do not have a video related to this part, but there are videos on YouTube that you may reference that may help you install it. If you go to YouTube and type in, "How do I install an agitator drive block?", videos will come up for you. There is also installation information listed with the part on our website that you may also use to install the part. You will find this part underneath the dispenser cover and cup. You will need a 1/2-inch socket to remove the agitator bolt and then simply lift off the agitator. This may require some effort to lift off. Use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the old drive block and then push the new one into place with firmness. We hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

My washer machine makes a noise from the top agitator block it moves back and forth making a medal click click click as it agitated. I have it torn apart at the moment. Looked at the bearing after removing the outer drum and that was ok. Replacing the belt, snubber and idler pulley because the belt is damaged and the pully is hairline cracked. Of course the nut didn’t come out for the inner tub so I had to cut that off unfortunately the other side wouldn’t slide up either it was corroded to the shaft with bolts stuck inside so I get to replace the bolts, seal, and the trunnion however if I'm this in to it how do I get the sound from the agitator block to be more quiet?
For model number 41797922701

Hello Sascha, Thank you for the question. This could be the agitator being stripped and not holding the bolt properly. The Agitator will need to be replaced. We hope this helps!

I have play when moving the agitator drive block back and forth and this play is not just between the drive block and transmission shaft but seems to be in the transmission itself. The reason i'm checking this part is my machine recently starting making a thud sound every time it oscillating back and forth during washing. I think this play is making this sound. Does this make sense?
For model number GLWS1339CS1
PartSelect logo
Hi Jonathan, Thank you for your question. Based on your description, the transmission is likely causing this issue, but you should also check the tub bearing as well as it may be worn. We hope this helps! Good luck with the repair!

My washer won’t agitate. It fills and then doesn’t move to agitate. If i turn the timer to drain and spin it spins. I have replaced the timer, the drain pump, and even the motor. My question is i have inspected the drive block and it is on tight and not stripped. It doesn’t make a sound or movement like the motor is even trying to engage the agitation cycle. When i grab the drive block while it spins i can hold it. I have no idea what it could be.
